At a meeting of the Town of Wappinger Town Board, held at the Town Hall,
20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, NY on June 26, 2000 the following
resolution was duly moved and carried.
The resolution was offered by Supervisor Connie Smith who moved for its
adoption.
WHEREAS, there is a continuing awareness of the benefits of
recreational activities not only upon the physical well being, but also upon
the quality of life, and
WHEREAS, a unique opportunity exists to establish a premier
recreational Trail along the County right of way known as the Maybrook
Corridor, and
WHEREAS, 2.38 plus miles of this corridor runs through the Town of
Wappinger and is extremely suitable for a Rail Trail, and
WHEREAS, there is an outpouring of public support for such a trail,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of
Wappinger Town Board requests establishment of a Rail Trail be designated
as a high priority item by the County.
The resolution was seconded by Council Member Vincent Bettina with the
vote of the Town Board as follows:

The resolution, having received 5 aye votes and 0 nays, was declared by the
Supervisor to be adopted.

RESOLUTION NO. 200140
RE: REQUESTING.THE TOWNS OF EAST FISHKILL, LAGRANGE,
POUGHKEEPSIE, AND WAPPINGER TO ENTER INTO
INTERMUNICIPAL AGREEMENTS WITH THE COUNTY OF
DUTCHESS AND REQUESTING THE COUNTY ATTORNEY TO
INITIATE SUCH NEGOTIATIONS
Legislators HAMMOND, HORTON, KELLY, LAWRENCE, NOEL, QUINN,
SEARS, SWARTZ, Babiarz, Donahue, Gutzler, Higgins, Hinkley, Jemiolo, Lecker, and
Price offer the following and move its adoption:
WHEREAS, the County of Dutchess has ownership of the abandoned former
Maybrook rail corridor between the Towns of East Fishkill, LaGrange, Poughkeepsie,
and Wappinger, and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the County Legislature and County
Executive that the wise use of such property includes the construction and operation of a
recreational rail trail transversing such towns, and
WHEREAS, it has been demonstrated that there is wide spread and significant
public support for such a project, and
WHEREAS, the County of Dutchess hasacquired a federal grant of $1.6 million
dollars for such a project, and
WHEREAS, in order to implement such a project it is necessary and advisable to
construct and operate such rail trail as a cooperative project between the County and local
municipalities, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Dutchess County Legislature hereby requests and urges the
County Attorney of the County of Dutchess to initiate negotiations with the Towns of
East Fishkill, LaGrange, Poughkeepsie, and Wappinger with the goal of reaching
intermunicipal agreements with each of the above Towns for the construction and
operation of a Dutchess Rail Trail, and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the Dutchess County Legislature hereby requests and urges the
Towns of East Fishkill, LaGrange, Poughkeepsie, and Wappinger to participate in such
negotiations with the County of Dutchess for the purposes stated above, and, be it further

such agreements as a priority matter and report their progress to the County Legislature
