Proclamation: Taiwan Peace Day
At a Regular Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New
York, held at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on February 27, 2017.
The meeting was called to order by Lori A. Jiava, Town Supervisor, and upon roll being called,
the following was recorded:

The following Resolution was introduced by Councilman Kuzmicz and seconded by Councilman
Ciccarelli.
WHEREAS, seventy years ago to the day on February 28, 1947, thousands of Taiwanese began
the long, historic struggle for a democratic Taiwan; and
WHEREAS, the Taiwanese selflessly gave their lives in order to further a democratic Taiwan
and ensure democracy, freedom and justice for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan successfully and peacefully elected its first female president, Dr. Tsai Ing-
wen, by a direct popular vote in January 2016; and
WHEREAS, a democratic Taiwan contributes to the stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific
region.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger does
hereby recognize and proclaim February 28, 2017 as "Taiwan Peace Day" and encourage all citizens to
recognize February 28, 1947 as an important date in Taiwan's historic evolution to full democracy, and
as a day of healing reconciliation and unity among Taiwanese people all over the world.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
