Resolution Introducing Local Law No. 8 Of The Year 2018, Amending Chapter 221, Article VII Of The
Town Code Regarding A Real Property Tax Exemption For Real Property Owned By Veterans Of The
Cold War
At a Regular Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York, held
at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on April 23, 2018.
The meeting was called to order by Richard Thurston, Town Supervisor, and upon roll being called, the
following was recorded:

WHEREAS, New York State has made amendments to the provisions of Real Property Tax Law § 458
b which authorizes property tax exemptions for qualifying veterans of the Cold War; and
WHEREAS, Local Law 16 of 2007 which was enacted by the Town of Wappinger requires replacement
to provide Cold War Veterans with the property tax exemption for so long as a qualified veteran owns the
property;
WHEREAS, the Town Board believes it is important to repay veterans for their service to our nation,
state, county and town by providing this property tax exemption;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. The Town Board hereby introduces for consideration of its adoption proposed Local Law No. 8 of the
Year 2018 "AMENDING CHAPTER 221, ARTICLE VII OF THE TOWN CODE REGARDING A REAL
PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR REAL PROPERTY OWNED BY VETERANS OF THE COLD WAR"
in the form annexed hereto.
2. The Town Board hereby determines that the enactment of the aforementioned Local Law is a Type II
action pursuant to 6 NYCRR 617.5(c)(16) and, accordingly, the Town Board hereby expressly determines that
this action is not an action that requires review pursuant to the provisions of New York State Environmental
Quality Review Act (SEQRA).
The Town Board hereby schedules a Public Hearing regarding the proposed adoption of the annexed Local Law
No. 8 of 2018 for 7:30 P.M., on the 14t11 day of May 2018, to be held at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road,
Wappingers Falls, New York, and the Town Clerk is directed to post a Notice of Public Hearing in the form
annexed hereto in the Town's official newspapers, the Southern Dutchess News and Poughkeepsie Journal, not
less than ten (10) days prior to said public hearing date and to post the notice of said public hearing on the sign
board of the Town.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
