Discussion
A general discussion ensued regarding the events related to the recent storm.
FEMA - Support
Dutchess County Commissioner Smith spoke on the county's role in the cleanup. He explained
the differences between Federal, State and Local disasters and funding limits for each. To
activate funding there needs to have certain thresholds met. For the county it is $1.2 million
dollars. The State has a threshold of $28.2 million dollars. The maximum amount to an
individual is $31,000. Nevertheless, he suggested filling out a form to be handed out by the
Supervisor's office and submit the requests to the State.
Brush Pickup For Damaged Areas; Alternate Brush Storage Site; and, Tree Clearing on
Private Property
Highway Superintendent discussed brush pickup. He explained the lack of room at the recycle
center. It was suggested to bring brush to Castlepoint Park or Reese Park. A diameter of 10
inches is the size limitation for brush to be brought to the edge of their property for curbside
pickup for Wards one and two. The board asked for pickup help from the county on county
roads. The question was asked about the possibility of outside contracting for help on brush
pickup. There were questions about burning. The risks were discussed and the board promised
to look into it. Attorney Horan cited the Town Code 127(7); but, said that the board had the right
to waive the action and the fee. Supervisor Thurston promised to contact the fire department for
further guidance.

3. Waiver of Certain Fees For Code Enforcement Permits
4.
IV.
The board agreed to waive all fees relating to the storm and to refund those fees that have already
been paid. The permit will be expedited if it is storm related.
Other Emergency Challenges
Residents in attendance discussed their individual problems with power or tree damage. Central
Hudson representative Denise Van Buren noted that once the roads are safe for travel, power can
then be restored. Price gouging should be reported to the attorney general. Mulch will be
available for free when the storage location is determined. Brush should be put on public
property so that the town can pick it up. Information will be put on the town website. Receipts
are necessary for assessing costs when filling out the damage forms. Individual home owners
can apply for coverage through their home owner's policy. Building inspector noted that those
coming to the house to do work should have insurance. Supervisor Thurston said that recycle
center one time use permit can be issued if proven to be directly related by the storm.
