Resolution Commemorating Holocaust Martyr’s And Heroes’ Remembrance Day In The Town Of
Wappinger Of May 2, 2019
At a Regular Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York, held
at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on May 13, 2019.
The meeting was called to order by Richard Thurston, Town Supervisor, and upon roll being called, the
following was recorded:

The following Resolution was introduced by Councilwoman Bettina and seconded by Councilman
Phillips.
WHEREAS, from 1933 to 1945, the Nazis persecuted the European Jews and 5.8 million Jews were murdered in
death camps as a part of a systematic program of genocide, w millions of other people also perished as victims of
Nazism; and
WHEREAS, the residents of the Town of Wappinger should always remember the Holocaust and the atrocities
committed by the Nazis so that such horrors are never repeated; and
WHEREAS, the genocide of European Jews must always be remembered in order to prevent its reoccurrence
anywhere else in the world; and

WHEREAS, the 27 day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar has been designated in Israel and the United States as
Holocaust Martyr’s and Heroes’ Remembrance Day, Yom Hashoah in Hebrew; and
th
WHEREAS, this year the 27 day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar falls on Thursday, May 2, 2019;
WHEREAS, Holocaust Martyr’s and Heroes’ Remembrance Day, is a day set aside for commemorating the martyrs
and heroes of the Holocaust and for reminding all Americans, and people around the world of what can happen to
civilized people when bigotry, hatred and indifference reign;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger commemorates
Thursday, May 2, 2019 as Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Martyr’s and Heroes’ Remembrance Day, in the Town of
Wappinger to honor and remember the millions of lives taken in the Holocaust.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
