Resolution Requesting Naming Of Wappinger Veterans Memorial Highway
At a Regular Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York, held
at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on September 9, 2019.
The meeting was called to order by Richard Thurston, Town Supervisor, and upon roll being called, the

The following Resolution was introduced by Councilman Kuzmicz and seconded by Councilman Beale.
WHEREAS, Military Veterans have made substantial sacrifices on behalf of their Nation, their State and the Town
of Wappinger; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting for public places like highways be dedicated to honor the sacrifices that our veterans have
made; and
WHEREAS, the Town Board finds that it is appropriate to name the most heavily travelled highway in the Town of
Wappinger, Route 9, as the “Wappinger Veterans Memorial Highway” to serve as a frequent reminder of the service
of the Veterans of the Town; and
WHEREAS, New York State Senator Susan Serino has coordinated the Town’s efforts to achieve this goal with the
New York State Department of Transportation which is responsible for the maintenance of the Route 9 right of
way;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger hereby requests that
the New York Department of Transportation prepare signs bearing the inscription “Wappinger Veterans Memorial
Highway” and erect them erected on Route 9 at the northern and southern entrances to the Town of Wappinger;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Highway Department should assist the New York Department of
Transportation as needed to erect the requested signs; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this
resolution to the office of New York State Senator Susan Serino.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
