Town of Wappinger Proclamation
At a Regular Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County,
New York, held at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on
November 13, 2019.
The meeting was called to order by Richard Thurston, Town Supervisor, and upon roll
being called, the following was recorded:

The following Resolution was introduced by Councilman Kuzmicz and seconded by
Councilwoman Bettina.
WHEREAS, during National Native American Heritage Month we celebrate the
rich tapestry of Indigenous peoples and honor their sacrifices, which we recognize
as inextricably woven into the history of The Town of Wappinger; and
WHEREAS, Wappinger takes its name from the Wappinger or Wappani Native
Americans who lived along the east side of the Hudson River; and
WHEREAS, Native Americans have moving stories of tragedy, triumph, and
perseverance that need to be shared with future generations; and
WHEREAS, Native Americans have enriched our heritage and continue to add to
all aspects of our society through their generosity of culture and the continued
practice of teaching economic, environmental, and cultural sustainability; and
WHEREAS, our state and country is blessed by the character and strength
exemplified by the Native Americans who have answered the call of service in our
armed forces in greater numbers per capita than any other group in the United
States. We honor our Native American veterans and those who are service in active
duty for their bravery and sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, during the month of November, we honor our native peoples and
recognize their continued contributions in strengthening the diversity of our
society.
NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Board of the Town of Wappinger, do hereby
proclaim November 2019 as Native American Heritage Month and encourage all
citizens to join in this observance.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
