VI. Discussions
1. Veterans Events Summary - Hathorn
Kevin Hathorn summarized the successful Veteran's events of the recent weekend.
2. "Emergency" Water Connection Request
A few of the residents along the eastern part of All Angels Hill Road just north of Hopewell
Road asked to get water from the United Wappinger Water District. The question was whether
to add them as tenants or expand the district. The addition to the district would include a buy-in
fee. The tenancy would result in no 'buy-in' fee but a higher water rate. They suggested a survey
of affected residents.
3. Consideration of Request to be Removed From the UWWD
Resident's from Brown Road filed a petition to be removed from the Water District. Councilman
Casella was strong advocate on their behalf. Throughout the meeting, he kept pushing the
Attorney for different options. In the end, two options were conceived due to his efforts. They

were as follows:
There are two options:
1) Go through Albany because a removal from the district would require approval from Albany.
2) Re-examine the benefit assessment unit process.

Dear Town Supervisor Thurston and Members of the Board,
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a 501c(3) nonprofit charity. NAMI is the
largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to providing support, free education, and
advocacy to the 1 in 5 Americans and 1 in 5 children that are affected by mental health issues. NAMI
has a state organization in all 50 states. NAMI Mid-Hudson (NAMI-MH) is one of the 1500 affiliates
that span the nation. For over 40 years, NAMI-MH has been committed to bring mental wellness and
increase mental health literacy regardless of race, gender, faith and socio-economic to Dutchess and
Ulster Counties.
In the past, in honor of MayisMentalHealthAwarenessMonth; NAMI NYS and NAMI-MH along with
our 28 other NAMI NYS affiliates tied white NAMI ribbons on trees, flag poles, and in areas of high
visibility over the entire state of New York. NAMI-MH tied over 800 NAMI ribbons from Millerton, NY
to Ellenville, NY. This campaign is an anti-stigma awareness campaign. Twenty-nine mental health
agencies, businesses, and schools also participated in the campaign.
NAMI-MH respectfully asks the Town of Wappinger to join us again for the ninth year in our public
awareness campaign for May 2021. We request permission to tie approximately thirty NAMI (30)
ribbons on the main streets of the Town of Wappinger for the month of May 2021.
NAMI-MH would also like the Town of Wappingers to proclaim: MayisMentalHealthAwareness
Month in your town.
NAMI-MH volunteers will be responsible for putting up the ribbons during the weekend of April 30th
and remove them no later than June 1st, 2021.
The eco-safe ribbons will be the same as we used in past years: 4-inch-wide white splendorette ribbons
with our NAMI logo, website information, and our message: FindHelp.FindHope.
We thank you in advance for supporting NAMI-MH in our mission to continue to preserve the dignity
and improve the quality of life for all families, caregivers, and individuals living with a mental health
condition and to eliminate the stigma of discrimination and prejudice surrounding mental health
conditions. By advocating for a more compassionate community, NAMI-MH continues to save lives by
changing the face on mental illness and bringing mental wellness to our community.
For more information, please visit our national website: www.nami.org, our state website:

Best,
