Box 324 Wappingers Falls, New York 12590 Reference: Deanna Estates Dear Board Members: Camo Pollution Control operators at the Sanitary Sewage Collection System for Wappinger Sewer Improvement Area No.1 have completed a flow study at the Roberts Road Pump Station. As you know the proposed Deanna Estates 5 Lot Subdivision would be tributary to this pump station. It was clear to us that the capacity of the pump station may not be able to take the additional flows and therefore a study would need to be completed. As per Mr. Tremper's memo of April 11, 2000, it is obvious that during peak times (i.e. 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) this station is at or near capacity. If you look at the overall flow through the day, the station appears to have excess capacity, but it is the peak times that are significant. In conversations with Mr. Tremper, he has indicated that because there is no holding vessel prior to this station that any excess flows during peak times or any mechanical failures during these times would result in sewage backing up into the lower homes that exist on Roberts Lane. This coupled with the age of the station, lead to Mr. Tremper's recommendation that an alternative solution be studied. Joseph E. Paggi, Jr., P.E. Ernst Martin, Jr., P.E., L.S. Chales R. Del Bene, Jr., P.E. " To: Planning Board Reference: Deanna Estates -2- April 1 7, 2000 We have determined that there is a potential for a gravity connection from Roberts Road into Rosewood Court that would allow for this pump station to be abandoned. The savings in operation maintenance of the district would be significant on a yearly basis and the return of the capital investment would be realized in a short period of time. I have enclosed a sketch of the proposed route of this sewer line. There would be legal concerns that would need to be addressed as far as easement acquisition, etc.; however the proposal is technically feasible. I would recommend that a meeting be set up with the Town, the operators of the sewage system, and the developer to discuss the potential of this connection as it appears to be the best solution to serving this proposed development's need for sewage collection. I am taking the liberty of coping the Town Board and the Developer on this memo and ask the Town Board that this matter be addressed at the next available workshop. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact this office. Very EP:pr enclosure cc: Constance O. Smith, Town Supervisor Elaine Snowden, Town Clerk Hon. Vincent Bettina Hon. Tremper, CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. DATE: April 11, 2000 RE: Future Flows At The Roberts Road Pump Station To help determine the existing flows at the Roberts Road Pump Station, CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. installed a counter on the ejector at the station. As you are aware, this is not a typical pump station. It is referred to as an air ejector station, and the counter counts the number of times the lower pot is blown with air. Assuming that the station blows at full pressure, the estimated volume per ejection is 100 gallons. However, if the station fires off several times during peak periods, it can be less than 100 gallons per pot. The attached pages show the number of ejections and the flow, by date, since March 15, 2000. I have also indicated the number of hours between each reading. In addition to the existing readings, I also had the station monitored for a few days during peak morning flow periods, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. It appears that the station fired off, on average, approximately 25 times (2,500 gallons) during this 2-hour period. As CAMO pollution Control, Inc. has previously mentioned, there are a number of concerns at the station. CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. strongly recommends that, if at all possible, this station be removed and the sewage gravity-flowed to another location in the collection system, as opposed to making any improvements to the existing station.
