Attention: Michael Merriman, Deputy Regional Permit Administrator
Reference: Wappinger Water Improvement - 1999
Dear Mike:
As you may be aware, the Town of Wappinger is experiencing extreme drought
conditions that is effecting it's ability for its major water supply (Central
Wappinger Water Improvement) to supply the average daily flow to approximately
8,000 residents.
The Town Supervisor has declared an official State of Emergency covering the
entire Town of Wappinger due to present conditions. This document has been
filed with all required State and Local agencies.
With that in mind, the Town has authorized our firm, in conjunction with Camo
Pollution Control, to drill two (2) production wells at the Atlas Wellfield of the
North Wappinger Water Improvement and immediately place them on line to
augment the source of the Central Wappinger Water Improvement.
As you may recall, when the Town purchased the Atlas Water Company in 1991,
a water supply application was applied for and granted by your Department. This
is known as Water Supply No. 8365 dated November 30th, 1989.
I placed a call to your this morning to determine what the proper course of action
for the Town to take with respect to the necessary regulatory agency approvals
that are required at the present time. I would be more then happy to sit down
with you at your earliest convenience to discuss what steps the Town is
proposing to take in this initial phase of the proposed improvements and the
immediate future to determine what permits and approvals are required.

The Town is ready, willing and able to comply with all requirements of your
Department, however, due to current daily declining production of their existing
wells, has authorized drilling of these two new wells to help us through these
difficult time.
I eagerly await your call and will supply any information, backup data, etc. that
you and/or your Department require.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
