Dear Supervisor Smith & Board Members:
At the October 12th, 1999 Town Board meeting, our office was authorized to survey the
grades on Kent Road at the intersection of Kent Road and Applesauce Lane/Robin Lane to
determine the grades on the west side of intersection.
We performed the survey, we have determined that the first 20' from the edge of the
intersection the grades were approximately 3%. For the next 20' the grades are
approximately 5%.
This would seem to be in the acceptable ranges and should not pose a problem for
accelerating from the stop even on wet pavement. This provides enough stacking room
for two (2) cars stopped at the "Stop" sign. If a third and/or fourth car are stopped at the
sign, the grades approach 10%. These grades could pose a problem in starting on a
snow-covered pavement.
In absence of having traffic counts, it would appear to me that the chances of having in
excess of two (2) cars Queued at the "Stop" sign would be minimal. Therefore, I would
think the grades would be acceptable for the placement of a "Stop" signs.
If there are any Questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact this office.
