Box 324 Wappingers Falls, New York 12590 Attention: Constance O. Smith, Supervisor Reference: Carmel Heights Subdivision Dear Supervisor Smith & Board Members: I am in receipt of a letter from Dan O'Connor dated August 25th, 1998, regarding his acceptance of our Certificate of Construction Compliance for the above sewer and water lines. I am also in receipt of a memo from Mike Tremper dated August 28th, 1998 regarding the pump station. In this letter Mr. Tremper states that the pump station and the lines in Sherwood Heights tributary to that pump station are in adequate working condition and capable of handling the eighteen (18) new homes from Carmel Heights. However, Mr. Tremper does bring up the conditions of the sewer line on Vorndran Drive where there have been flow problems in the past during times of infiltration/ inflow. I thank Mr. Tremper for bringing this to the forefront and advise the Board that this problem exists today, an,d as Mr. Tremper states, is not related to the Sherwood Heights pump station. \. --.--.. "- ..'-,-..... I would strongly recommend that the infiltration pro~ramthatwe are starting now to set up be implemented as soon as possible to insure that the existing condition on Vorndran Drive is bettered. Paggi, Town of Wappinger Engineer FROM: Michael P. Tremper, CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. ~~~ DATE: August 28, 1998 RE: Sherwood Heights Pump Station This memo will serve as a response to your August 24, 1998 memo regarding the Sherwood Heights Pump Station operation. The Sherwood Heights Pump Station is equipped with two 40 HP Smith & Loveless pumps, capable of pumping 100 gallons per minute. There is no emergency generator located at the Sherwood Heights Pump Station, but there is an enlarged wet well and holdi~g tank to hold the flow during times of power outages. Duri~g the extended power outage of 1997 it was necessary for CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. to pump out the station by means of a portable generator on an every two day basis.- The current operation of the pump station consists of a two pump operation in a lead lag manner. There are elapsed time meter readings on each pump, which CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. reads on a daily basis. During the month of July, which was one of the driest months of 1998, the station averaged one hour per day of combined pump operation. During the month of May, which was a~ extremely wet month, the station averaged 1.4 hours of combi~ed pump operation. As you can see from these elapsed time meter readings, there are no problems meeting existing flow demar-ds during dry or wet conditions. ; ~. ~ However, CAMO Pollution Control, Inc. has documented with the Town that there have been problems with the sewer lines not being able to handle the flows in the area where the force main empties out onto Vorndran Drive. This has happened on occasions of extreme flooding conditions in 1996 and has not been a problem since. This problem is not related to the Sherwood Heights pump station, but other infiltration problems within the Rockingham Collection System where the lines become surcharged.
