Attention: Constance O. Smith, Supervisor
Reference: ADA Handicap Accessible Entry Doors/Town Hall
Dear Supervisor Smith & Board Members:
As per your direction, this office has investigated the costs associated with retro-fitting an automatic
opening handicap accessible door at the Town Hall building.
Our investigation has revealed that the preferred method of providing automatic opening handicap
accessible entry to the building would be via the existing front (north) entry way.
Door system component part prices were obtained from Mr. Jeff Dobos, Door Control, Inc., 67
South Turnpike Road, Wallingford, Connecticut 06492
The proposed handicap accessible entry system would include dual sliding doors constructed of
aluminum and glass to match existing, mat activated automatic door openers, electric service,
demolition and retro-fitting, and a new 5' wide concrete entry sidewalk and drop curb.
We have prepared an estimated project cost, broken down as follows:
I ITEM II COST I
o Horton Automatic 2310 Bi-Parting Sliding $ 10,000.00
Door with Controls
0 Provide Electric Service to Door Opener $ 2,000.00
0 Demo of Existing & Retro-fit of New Door $ 3,000.00
0 Excavate 5"W x 70' L Section of Existing $ 1,000.00
Pavers at Entry Way
0 Place New 5'W x 70'L Concrete Entry Walk $ 1,750.00
o New Concrete Entry Ram & Drop Curb $ 1,250.00
Construction Subtotal $ 19,000.00
+ 10% contingencies $ 1,900.00
Construction Total $ 20,900.00
+ 20% Fees (Engineering Design, $ 4,100.00
Inspection, Administrative)
I TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST II $ 25,000.001

RE: ADA Handicap Accessible Entry Doors
November 21, 1997
It should be noted that we also investigated providing access via the existing side (east or west) entry
ways. It is our opinion that retro-fitting these side entry ways is a less attractive option due to the
fact that the resulting minimum clear openings would approach or equal ADA minimum
requirements, and that utilizing these access points would provide no appreciable cost savings over
the front entry option.
