Dear Board Members:
At the request of Mrs. Katharine Gregory, 295 Myers Corners
Road, we inspected the drainage ditch that traverses her
property. The ditch crosses her property at the mid-way
point and ultimately drains towards Myers Corners Road in
the vicinity of Shelburne Hills.
A section of the ditch which crosses her property is quite
steep and has been eroded over the years. The erosion is
considerable and in my opinion, will continue to erode.
The drainage originates from Dogwood Hills Road. There
appears to have been a catch-basin installed in the road
with a culvert crossing leading to this backyard stream.
The upper sections of the stream are somewhat flatter and
not SUbject to this type erosion. To stop this erosion from
taking place and still allow the water to be transmitted
across the'property, one would have to stabilize the banks
of the existing ditch. Stabilization could take the form of
piping it and/or rip-rapping the stream. The cost of
installing pipe in this ditch would be quite expensive
compared to the cost of rip-rapping the lower sections of
the stream. Therefore, it would be my recommendation that
the most cost effective method of correcting the problem
would be to rip-rap the lowest, steepest sections of the
stream.

I would ask that the Town Attorney verify the existence of
an ea.sement across this property and to ascertain whether or
not the Town has the right to do any work on the property.
If not, an easement must be obtained.
By copy of this letter, I am notifying Tom Wood of this
request. At this point, I believe it would be advisable to
set up a workshop to discuss this matter.
I am also notifying Mrs. Gregory of my recommendations.
Very truly yours,
