SUBJECT: FLUSHER TRUCK AND VACTOR
FLUSHER TRUCK
Several years ago, we were concerned about the tank on this vehicle. We were
short of money and we opted for temporary repairs on this 1991 vehicle, which
was scheduled for complete replacement in 2006. The basic vehicle is still
sound and only the tank is failing. We contacted the manufacturer and they told
us the tank is obsolete and not available. The only place I can think of to replace
this tank is Amthor in Walden.
Attached is a quote for a replacement aluminum tank for $20,830, which should
give us another 10 years from this vehicle. It would cost $100,000 plus to
replace.
VACTOR
This vehicle is a special purpose vehicle which is used primarily to clean out
catch basins and clear clogged storm and sanitary sewers. The suction tank is in
need of immediate repair. Repairing this tank should easily give us an additional
10 years of life for this vehicle.
Attached is a quote for $8,500 from Amthor for this repair.
-.
We should discuss this ASAP at a staff meeting.

SUBJECT: SAND / SALT SPREADERS
Last spring, when we removed the sanders from trucks #4 & #14 they literally fell apart
from rust. The sanders had jammed several times, during the winter, because the
chains had separated from the sanders. We were unable to save the sanders because
there was not enough steel to weld to.
The plan was to replace trucks #4 & #14 with their plows and sanders, during our 2005
season. When we looked into this purchase, we discovered we did not have sufficient
funds.
I feel we can get through the upcoming winter with both trucks. However, we will have to
purchase two sanders. The sanders will fit the new trucks, if and when, we buy them.
estimate our total cost at less than $14,000.00.
By copy of this memo, I am asking permission from the Board to go to bid for these
sanders.
