received at the office of the Town Clerk of the Town
of Wappinger, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York,
until 1:00 P.M. on the 15th day of October, 1993, for the

It is the intention of this specification to describe the
minimum requirement s for a combina tion dump body/ma t erial
spreader, front reversible plow and hydraulic system.
Bidders shall furnish complete manufacturers literature and
descriptive literature with their proposal. Bidders shall
not e and explain any and all deviations from thes e
specifications in order for their bid proposal to receive
full consideration. The use of manufacturers names and/or
mod~l numbers is strictly tor the purpose of indicating the
quality of materials desired. .
COYBI~A TION DUYP BODY IliA TERIAL SPREADER: The body shall be
a traditional dump as well as a material spreader in one
shell. It shall be 104" by 77", inside length by width,
dimensions. The body shall have 16" sides and a 22"
tallgate height. The body shall have a side height capacity
or 2.7 yards and a tailgate height capacity of 3.7 cubic
yards. The entire body with the exception of the floor and
the rear corner posts shall be fabricated from 12 gauge A-36
structural steel. The !loor shall be from l/S" SWEBOR 500
steel with radiused sides. There shall be a minimum 18"
cabshield mounted integrally with the front of the body.
There shall be provision for side boards at the top of th~
top rails. The tailgate shall be a two (2) panel design
fabricated from 10 gauge steel and shall be double acting.
There shall be heavy-duty 3/S" hardware. Spreader chains
shall be provided. There shall be an OSHA approved safet y
prop for routine service on the body. There shall be mud
flaps provided in front of and behind the rear wheels.
The understructure shall have 4" by 2" structural tubing
longmembers both curbside and roadside of the body. There
shall be a conveyor assembly located roadside in the body
floor. The floor and curbside of the body shall be designer!
to lift and move material to the roadside conveyor
mechanIsm. The remaining stationary outside longmember

There shall be one (1) double acting cylinder with 3-1/2"
bOl4e and 15" :)trok~ and ()ne sln61e acting cylLnder wIth ~"
bore and 9" stroke incorporated into the bod~ to raIse the
(1<)<.)r. The cylinder rods for both cylinders shall be
manufactured using the HYDRAVNITE process to mInImize wear
and corrosion. The cylinders shall carry a full two (2)
year warranty from the original manufacturer. The original
manufacturer shall provide steel pipe within the body for
hydraulic lines. The floor at the full lift position shall
be approximately 35- degrees. The noor shall be hinged with
a solid stainless steel hinge pIn. All moving parts shall
be furnIshed with grease zerks.
COMBINATION DUMP BODY/MATERIAL SPREADER CONT.:
The body lift hoist shall be a: single telescopic three stage
single act ing cylinder. The barrels ot each stage shall be
manufactured using the HYDRAUNITE process to minimize wear
and corrosion. The cylinder shall carry a full two (2) year
warranty from the original manufacturer. '~The hoist cylinder
shall ha ve a capaclt y 0 f 8 tons. The cyllnde r shall be
saddle mounted to the t.ruck frame.
The material conveyor shall run road side of the body and
shall have a pintle type chain: The wear plate lor the
conveyor shall be fabricated from 10 gauge AR plate. The
drive shall have bronze gears and shall have a 20:1 ratio.
The drive box shall be driven with an hydraulic motor of
ample size.
There shall be a chassis trame mounted spinner, located in
front of the body on the drivers side of the cha$sls. The
splnne'l" shall have a hydraulic motor mounted at the top of
the drive shaft and be furnished with a polyurethane spinner
disc. The spinner motor shan be piped using quick
di sconnect s to r ea s e ot remo v al. The ma t er lal shall be fed
{(om the body to the spinner through a plastic tenelene
chute.
FRONT REVERSIBLE PLOW: The unit shall be furnished w lth a
heavy-duty WESTERN snow plow with factory designed custom
mounting trame, lift cylinder and hydraulic reversing
cylinders. The plow shall be a minimum of 10' long.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM:
HYDRAt:LIC peyp: The hydraulic pump shall be a ML~CIE
heavy-duty FBH series clutch pump with an output of 11 GPM
at an engine speed of 1,000 RPY.

shall be supplied by the same manufacturer 33 th~ hydraulic
pump. It shall be specifically d~signed tor both the
referenced pump and the specific ch~ssi~ en6ine as
specified.
HYDRAULIC OIL RESERVOIR: The hydraulic 011 r~servoir shall
be mounted to th~ frame of the chassis, curbside. The
reservoir shall have a minimum capacity of 20 gallons and
shall be fabricated from minimum 10 gauge pickled and oiled
sheet steel. The reservoir shall be equipped with a vented
fill cap with integral screen, a magnetic drain plug, an oil
level sight gauge and a retutn line filter with spin-on 25
micron filter element.
HYDRAULIC VALVE (PRIMARY): The. primary hydraulic valve
assembly shall be of the same :manutacture as the hydraulic
pump. It shall be of the sectional balanced spool
construction and have a rated capacity of 30 GPM with the
reller valve .capable of adjustment to 3,500 PSI. The
primary relief valve shall be set at time of installation
between 1,500 and 1,800 PSI. Valve sections shall be
provided tor: PLOW LIFT" PLOW REVERSE, BODY RAISE/LOWER AND
BODY FLOOR RAISE/LOWER. The valve shall further be provided
with a power beyond end section.
HYDRAULIC VALVE (SPREADER): The re shall be a FLt:ID CONTROLS
model 2FFL-12 dual flow control valve providel1 and piped to
the combination dump body described elsewhere 1n these
specltica tions.
CONTROLS: All control levers shall be MUNCIE MRVC series or
approved equal. Control location and sequence shall be
approved by the highway superintendent prior to final
installation. I
CABLES: All control cables shall be MUNCIE 35 series or
approved equal.
HOSES: All pressure line:) shall meet or exceed a rating of
SAE100R5. All suction and return lines shall meet or exceed
a rating of SAE100R4. All lines shall be neatly run and
protected with protective coll sleeve at potential wear
points. Lines shall be routed in a manner so as to avoid
contact with either the exhaust system or driveshaft of the

31-i6 ENGINES USED TO POWER ON-HIGHWAY VEI-iICLES
Caterpillar warrants new and Remanufactured 3116 Engines sold
by it and used in on-highway vehicles to be free from defects in
material and workmanship.
Warranty Period
This warranty is subject to the following:
The standard warranty period for new engines
is 36 months, 150,000 miles (243,000 kilometers),
or 3600 operating hours, whichever occurs first
after date of delivery to Ih e first user.
The warranty period for Remanufactured
Engines is 12 months, 100,000 miles (162,000
kilometers) or 1800 operating hours, whichever
occurs first after date of delivery to the first user.
If a defect in material or workmanship is found
during the standard warranty period, Caterpillar
will, during normal working hours and at a place
of business of a Caterpillar dealer or other autho-
rized source:
. Provide (at Caterpillar's choice) new, MCE,
Remanufactured or Caterpillar-approved
repaired parts or assembled components
needed to correct the defect.
NOTE: Items replaced under this warranty
become the properlY of Caterpillar.
. Replace lubricating oil filters, antifreeze and
other service items made unusable by the
defect.
. Provide labor needed to make the repair
except in the case of an engine installed by
other than an approved OEM, Caterpillar
dealer or other authorized source. In that case,
labor is limited to repair only, and engine
removal and installation is the user's respon-
sibility.
User
Responsibilities
During the standard warranty period, the user
is responsible for:
. Providing proof of delivery date,
. Labor costs, except as stated under "Cater-
pillar Responsibilities."
· Premium or overtime labor costs, unless
essential to prevent loss to perishable goods.
. Parts shipping charges in excess of those
which are usual and customary.
. Local taxes, if applicable.
· Costs to investigate compli\ints, unless the
problem is caused by a defect in Caterpillar
material or workmanship.
. Giving timely notice of a warranty failure and
promptly making the product available for
repair.
Caterpillar
Responsibilities
Caterpillar is not responsible for failures r~sult-
ing from
. Any use or instaliation which Caterpillar judges
improper.
. Attachments, accessory items and parts not
sold nor approved by Caterpillar.
. Abuse, neglect and/or improper repair.
.. User's unreasonable delay in making the
product available after being notified of a
potential product problem.
. Th is warranty applies to engines powering on-
highway vehicles except those operating
within Europe, Africa, the Middle East or
Australia. A list of specific countries and copies
of application warranties may be obtained by
writing Caterpillar Inc., 100 N.E. Adams Street,
Peoria, IL 61629-5140.
NEITHER THE FOREGOING EXPRESS WARRANTY NOR ANY
OTHER WARRANTY BY CATERPILLAR, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED,
is APPLICABLE TO ANY ITEM CATERPILLAR SELLS WHICH IS
WARRANTED DIRECTLY TO THE USER BY ITS MANUFACTURER.
Limitations
THIS WARRANTY IS EXPRESSLY IN LIEU OF ANY OTHER
WARRANIIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WAR-
RANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE, EXCEPT CATERPILLAR EMISSION-RELATED COMPO-
NENTS WARRANTIES FOR NEW ENGINES, WHERE APPLICABLE.
REMEDIES UNDER THIS WARRANTY ARE LIMITED 10 THE PRO-
VISION OF MATERIAL AND SERVICES, AS SPECIFIED HEREIN.
