In 1964, this department issued a total of 412 building permits for an es- timated value of construction of $6,675,140, as compared with 1963 when 324 per- mits were issued for an estimated value of construction of $4,818,975. Total income of fees collected and turned over to the Town Clerk in 1964 was $6,366.75, compared with 1963, when only $4,359.50 in fees was collected. During the year, I have recorded 971 inspections of buildings under construc- tion. Inspection includes masonry and wood construction and plumbing installations. Local builders generally are becoming aware that the Town of Wappinger expects compliance with the building code and the zoning regulations. Naturally, we find some violations and order corrections made. Zoning administration takes considerable time both in the office and in the field, but I feel that with the exception of some junk-yard problems, the situa- tion is under control. As multiple dwelling inspector, I received a number of complaints from res- idents on housing conditions which I was able to have corrected promptly in each case. We are progressing in assigning house numbers in co-operation with the area post-offices. At least 8 developments are now completely numbered. I attend all meetings of the Planning Board and the Appeals Board; also, ad- vise and aid applicants in preparing their applications to the boards. I have prepared a table, which is attached, summarizing the building activ- ities for 1964. I hope you will find this informative. In 1965, with some assistance both in the office and for field work, we should be able to carry on and improve on supervision of building construction in our town. fftZ~ Building Inspector Town of Wappinger
