NOTICE: Al?1?ELlANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS INVOLVED .iN ... :,..- ..' ... .... ~ ~ ....... - ... . .... RIDER TO NOTICE OF APPEF~ 2(a)(1) The variance requested is for sign 36" ~'lide and 72" high and non-luminated to be placed on a light pole on the southeasterly corner of the property herein and would state "Diesel Fuel & Wheel Align.r.1ent." This pole already is approximately 20' fro3 t~e edge of the road. The sign had been there for many years but was removed at the request of the building inspector, Hans Gundirud, because the sign did not meet the 25' set- back from the property line. The sign itself is made of wood and has a black background and white lettering. To place this sign where it would conform to the 25' setback requirement, would have this sign in such a place as the suotmobile traffic would not be able to see it. This would cause an economic hardship to the appellant. 2(a) (2) Since diesel fuel is not carriea oy every service station, it is important that the sisn be near the intersection so it can be seen in su~~icient time by a person having a diesel automobile. ~~e sign is non- l.uminated, so it would not cause any gr2..::.-t annoyance to anyone in the area. 2 ( ) ( 3 ) h . d . ,AlI.J.o aTe varlance oes ~ request a use varlance, ~ only an area variance. The request is for the continued use of a sign on a pole, which has been there for many years. This sign does not pose any safety hazzard since there is a barrier in back of it and would be positioned approximately 20' from the road. There are other commercial signs permitted in the area, and this sign does not change the character o~ the district and observes the spirit of the ordinance.
