LARGE BARN on
HI Farm property off
in the Town of Fishkill
eveled by fire late
ny evening. Firemen
Chelsea Fire Co. were
d by volunteers from
gut of Fishkill and
nnville.
i of Fishkill Supervisor
t Muller, who retired
mth as superintendent
arm, reported that the
structure measured 90
!et. He identified it as a
barn" primarily for
free use of beef cattle for
feeding. The "loafing barn,"
says Supervisor Muller, whose
son, Herbert, Jr., is Chelsea
fire chief, permits the cattle to
"come and go as they
wished."
Approximately 500 bales of
hay and at least two pieces of
farm equipment were lost in
the fire, cause of which had
not been determined at press
time.
Mr. Muller said the firemen
had plenty of water, pumping
an ample supply from a large
pond on the property. The
barn, he estimated, was about
a half -mile from the pond.
The fire had a "tremendous
start" before it was
discovered, Supervisor Muller
reported. He said a woman
telephoned the original alarm
to the Beacon Police
Headquarters but her name
was not recorded.
The barn was beyond saving
when the fire was discovered,
Mr. Muller reported.
Firemen left the scene at
about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
