WASHINGTON 25, D. C.
Office of the Supervisor of the
Special Census of Wappinger
Town Hall
Poughkeepsie, New York

Mr. Edward R. Scofield
Supervisor, Town of Wappinger
Wappinger Falls, N.Y.
My dear Mr. Scofield:
I take pleasure in making a preliminary announcement of
the Special Census returns for the Town of Wappinger. A preliminary
count of the returns of the Special Census, taken as of April 1, 1957,
is 7,927 compared with 5,090 in 1950. Taking the incorporated Village
of Wappinger separately, our preliminary count is 3,184 compared with
2,475 in 1950. The village totals are included in the Town totals.
While these figures are preliminary and subject to revision,
it is believed that they are substantially correct. Please examine
them carefully, and if you think that any residents have been omitted
from the enumeration or if you have anp other criticism to offer,
please inform me at once in wwiting so that the matter may receive
prompt attention. If after my investigation of these criticisms you
feel there remains any evidence of incorrect enumeration in the census,
such evidence must be submitted in writing to the Director of the
Census, Washington 25, D. C. by May 4, 1957. After that date, no
corrections can be made. If no objections to the census returns are
received by the date indicated, it will be assumed that there is no
evidence of incorrect enumeration.
The official certification of population will be made at a
later date by the Director, Bureau of the Census, Washington 25, D. C.
Very respectfully,
