OFFICE OF
THE DIRECTOR
r ...
u.s. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
BUREAU OF THE CENSUS
WASHINGTON 25. D.C.
IN REPLY REFER TO:
SEP 11 1964
Miss Helen L. Travis
Town Clerk and Collector
Town of Wappinger
Wappingers Falls, New York 12590
Dear Miss Travis:
This acknowledges receipt of the letter of August 14
from Mr. Linge and your letter of September 4, the check
for $132.00 as partial payment of the Bureau fee, and
the map copies of the T<;1W'n of Wappinger for the special
census to be taken in 1965.
We shall also need to have seven copies of the map of
that part of Wappingers Falls village which is included
in the town. This village map should show the street
pattern and the present corporate limi. ts . If there have
been annexations to that part of the village since April 1,
1960, one copy of the map should show the boundaries and
effective date of each annexation. The corporate limits
should be outlined in color on one copy and certified to be
correct by a village official. We are sorry that we did
not include this request in our letter of August 10 to
Mr. Linge.
Mr. Jack W. Traverse of our New York City Regional Office
will get in touch with you to arrange for the census to be
taken. He will assign a Special Census Supervisor from his
staff and will let you know when the supervisor will arrive
in Wappinger.
The formal agreement prepared for the signature of Mr. Richard
H. Linge, Supervisor, will be delivered by our supervisor.

We anticipate a heavy schedule of special censuses in New York
state next spring. Because certain preparatory work must be
done well in advance of the census date, we will appreciate
receiving your definite decision as soon as p06sible.
If a decision to proceed is reached, you should furnish us
with the maps at an early date. We cannot begin the necessary
preparatory work until we have received at least a part of the
payment which will be due to the Bureau from you. You could
expedi te this portion of the work if you will send us at least
$132.00 at the time you submit the maps. If you choose to do
that, the balance of the payment to the Bureau will be due
no later than 60 days prior to the start of the census.
Since this partial payment will be used to f cilitate necessary
preparatory work, only the unuse w' d be refundable
if you decided to withdraw t re~est fo the census.
