Re: Re Appointment (September)
From: Linda Tasadfoy
Dear Supervisor Smith and Members of the Town Board,
It is difficult for me to believe that four years have passed since my appointment as
Assessor, but it is time again for me to request consideration for reappointment for a six
year term.
The past four years have been very busy and fruitful in many ways for me. I have
organized my office, increased the towns taxable assessments, recollected and updated
groups of properties on new property record cards, challenged the State for our
maintenance aid moneys and won, gaining the town $18,820.
I am continuing to work with property owners who wish assessment review, and many
taxpayers visit our office to review their property record cards, and their values with me.
We process an extensive (and ever-growing) number of exemptions for Veterans, Senior
Citizens, Agriculture, and Star yearly. The routine work of the office never seems to
abate, but general procedures are ingrained and coordinated, so everything moves
smoothly.
Certiorari litigation served on the Town by Commercial Property Owners is an ongoing
process. Mr. Saris and I have been working diligently on discontinuance of any new
litigation, and have settled many others that are favorable to the welfare of the Town and
its taxpayers. Together we have saved the taxpayers thousands of dollars in pay-backs
and interest.
Assessment work has been both challenging and enjoyable. I am gratified to have been
supported by this Town Board in my endeavor to work for the benefit of the Town of
Wappinger. I wish to go on record as seeking reappointment for a full six year term
beginning in September 2001. Thank you for your consideration: I await your decision.

Dear Supervisor _~mit1l{~;J1jf.-
,/ ."--
This letter is to inform you that the term for appointed assessors ends on September
31, 2001. Assessors are responsible for accurate real property assessments, correct
property data inventories, the careful collection of sales information, consistent
exemption administration, timely preparation and filing of assessment rolls and for
providing accurate property tax information for local officials and property owners.
I believe Linda Tasadfoy has served your town faithfully and diligently in these areas
over the past six years and should be considered for reappointment.
Therefore, it may be a good idea to inquire whether Linda would like to seek a new
term of office. This is also a great opportunity to discuss programs that effect
successful assessment administration as well as develop mutual goals or a plan for
the future with her.
We believe that a prime component of any quality community is its assessment
administration program. I say this because the assurance of fair assessments and the
amount of property taxation are among the top concerns of newcomers and current
property owners within any community. The quality of local assessment practice is
also being taken very seriously at the state level.
Dutchess County is one of seven pilot counties involved with an experimental
program that promises to deliver more recognition of the job of the assessor, greater
assessment equity, greater assessment knowledge and the assurance offair
assessment practices. Together with the State Office of Real Property Services and
your to\\'o, we hope to build an excellent program of real property tax administration
for your community in the coming years.
We hope you will reserve an opportunity to discuss this project with us.
Sincerely,
