2001-10-25 3 DIAL A RIDE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING Report of Meeting October 25,2001 The minutes to the last meeting were distributed as well as the monthly totals of each town's ridership. The Service Summary totals from January 2001 to September 2001 show a 2% increase in Dial-A-Ride services. These totals and summaries are attached to this report Please note the Wappinger ridership is now close to 600 passengers per month using both buses. The Town subsidizes a second bus for the seniors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This increase in ridership continues to grow rapidly. There are an increasing number of seniors in the Town requesting transportation service. The Town Board may wish to look at another increase in the Dial-A-Ride service for the Town seniors by extending the second bus to other days in the week. Several seniors have concerns regarding going to doctors and for diagnostic tests. Many of the tests require an empty stomach. They have complained they often have to wait to go for their test until after everyone else gets to their location. I questioned this and asked the supervisor and dispatch to look into this and get back to me. Gift Certificates for the Dial-A-Ride service are available at the Office of the Aging. The 2002 contracts will be sent out to the municipalities in November. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50a.m. the next meeting is Thursday, January, 24, 2002 k-~' , ' ~!' -' Kathi DeLisa r,E.CE.\\1E.O ~O'J \ t) '1.~~\ 10WN C\..E.R\( Dial A Ride Advisory Board Meeting . Dutchess County Dial-A-Ride Advisory Board Thursday, July 26, 2001, 10:00 a.m. p:esent: (see attached) At the request of Mary Kaye Dolan, who is on vacation, Barbara Griggs was asked to chair the meeting. The Agenda, DAR Service Summary YTD report through June and the monthly totals report fo: April, May and June 2001 were distributed. After review, Kealy Solomon inquired as to the reason for the drop in ridership in June. Sandra Price explained that it is not un:1sual for ridersilip to clrop during the SUIT'Jner months due to vacations. Participating municipalities were recently advised by the Office for the Aging that for the year 2002 there would be an increase of 2.25% in the cost for DAR service. Peter Idem~ raised the issue once more of hi!; interest in pursuing no cost transportation for the seniors of East Fishkill with the town pid.in:,. IlJ:' tiw co~:t. }fa :1::1:ed Spencer Mcy.ain how best DOT and the tOlm could coopera.te in working outva:s!:Jstem to provide this service substituting cash payments with coupons, tokens or some other means along with a method for distribution. After several suggestions from Board Members, Peter and Spencer agreed to continue discussing the issue in order to work our a feasible solution. As indicated on the Agenda, several to~~s expressed interest in the possible extension 0: service. No specific requests have been filed with DAR as of the meeting. Sandra stated there is also an indication of additional rider interest at her location, She recently received a request for twenty or so application forms from the Berkley Square hO:1sing development and it is CL'1ticipated that requests for ne~' applications Ivill be ongoing as new housing is developed. Debbie Donohue reported that she had received complaints from riders who were told, after boarding the bus, they would have to be taken home earlier than anticipated because the bus "was needed." Sandy and Janice expressed concern over the report since it is not D~~ policy. They advised they would look into the matter. And another East Fishkill rider - 2 - expressed concern about the number of additional stops he could make on one trip. It was explained that DAR allows up to 3 stops within the municipality and that it is not always possible to comply with requests for additional stops due to the bus schedule on that particular day and the distance and time required for addition2l stops. It was suggested that the rider be informed of this policy. A brief overview of DAR policy followed. 7~ The meeting of the DJ..R Advisory Board,...d11 be held on Thursday, October 25, 2001. ,..
