Re: Fire Protection Survey
Dear Board Members:
Enclosed please find various information received from
Mr. Thomas W. Shand, Engineering Representative, Public
Protection Department, Insurance Services Office.
You will note in the letter to the Board of Fire Commis-
sioners of the New Hackensack Fire District, that there are
certain areas mentioned in paragraph 3, namely, Malstorme
Road, Phyllis Drive, Roberts Lane, Scenic Gardens Drive,
Village Crest Apartments, Village Crest East Apartments and
Wildwood Drive. These areas were unable to produce the
minimum fire flow.
It is obvious that 2 of the above mentioned roads are loca-
ted in the Oakwood Knolls Water District. This might be in-
formation to be considered on the use of said main for the
D.W.S. Subdivision.
The above information should be made available to the local
insurance agencies, so that the residence in the various
water districts can accrue the benefits due them, for this
added information.
Thank you very much.

Dear Sir:
h'e have recently completed a fire protection survey in the HUi'hsonville
Fire District. The results of this initial survey indicate that an ISO
Advisory Class 5-8-9 protection classification has been acquired by the
dis tric to
The Class 5 municipal protection classification will <JDply to all commercial
property v:ithin 600 feet of approved hydrants in the Central Vappinger Hater
Irr.p rovcmen t Dis trict. A class "B" dwelling classi fication will apply' to
residential property within 1,000 feet of hydrants on the Central Wappinger
Sys tern.
Class "cc" d"lelling rates (Advisory Class 8) will be <lpplicable in the Tall
Trees Subdivision on the following streets: Amherst lane, BOI"doin Lane
and Cameron Lane. The Tall Trees system is unable to produce the required
500 gallons per minute" at 20 pounds per square inch residual pressure for a
tv:o hour duration, \,,11 Lch is the minimum acceptable flow for Class "B" pro-
tection. A fire flO\\ of 400 GPM can be sustained in the system for two hours.
Therefore Class "cc" lrotection is warranted at this time.
Hydrants on the Fleet\-JOod Hater System are not eligible for a y fire insurance
rate credi t due to their inabili ty to produce even the 250 GP[ at 20 psi flow
for a two hour duration which is the minimum acceptabl~ flow lor Class "cc"
protection.
In addition, no rate credit is available for the numeJOUS pri ate hydrants
and systeD~ in the Fire District.
ive have enclosed a summary of the fire flow tests con(lcted d ring our survey,
together ,-'ith an explanation of the recent fire distrj ct grad ng.
