PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Concept
Describe the project you plan to do.
I, Adam Damobid, hope .to provide enough' assistance to allow th~ Wappingers Grc~nway
Committee to open Reese Park to large scale use by the public. To accomplish this I intend to provide
assistance in the fashion of organizing the required amount of people and equipment to bring the park up
to date. This may include, but is not limited to, scattering wood chips to keep undergrowth down,
removing trash, cleaning up trails aftcr Hurricane Floyd, placing permanent foot bridges, and preparing a
remedy to the problem of illegal ATV use on the trails. I hope to accomplish this by enlisting thc help
of people and organizations which many include and not limited to the Kingston and Poughkeepskic
Army National Guard, the Audubon Society, and Scenic Hudson. In order to accomplish this, there will
be datcs and times set where my, assistance coming from the people and the groups will help to achieve
these goals. In order to accomplish this, I must recruit people to help, procure goods, and work with the
Town of Wappingers and their Grccnway Committee. This is slated to be accomplished in a series of
weekends, one following the initial approval, one in the early spring and if needed one after that.

My project will be of benefit to the group because:
This project will help the Wappingers Greenway eommittcc beeause the park has suffered from
neglect for many years. In recent timcs there has been a interest in revitalizing it. The committce has
lacked a person to step forward and plan and see through a project that will accomplish many of it's
goals in one swipe. By the end of the projcct the park will be in better shape then it was originally .
Besides the Wappingcrs Greenway benefiting, the general public will also benefit. Upon comlpetion the
park will no longcr be considered run down. After the work is finished school groups will travel to the
park to experience it and interact with nature.

PLANNING'DETAILS.
Plan your work by describing the present condition, the method, materials to be used, project helpers and a time
schedule for carrying out. Describe any safety hazards you might face and explain how will ensure the safety of
those carrying out the project.
...
A.
My project will be to provide the necessaxy leadership to return Reese Park into operating order
after years of neglect and misusc:+ It will incorporate many items and people over an extended period of
time. Once it is completed I hope to bring the park to a point where it was many years ago. This will
requirc the help of various people and organizations to do things like :.rail clean up, trash rcmoval, and
create some permanent structures.

The work to be done has been organized into a list in order of priority.
1. Spread wood chips.
2. Revamp trails.
3.. Improve demarcation
In order to do this, it will require prior preparation and people:a1ong with interaction with
numerous groups and people to acquire workers and materials.
1 Prior to spreading the wood chips two adults will cut back the under brush. This will occur
before anyone who will work with us shows up. The people who anive later to spread the ehips will
move the chips from the present location using wheelbarrows. A group will load them, a group will
move them, and a group will spread them.
2. Revamping the trails ean involve tasks.
A. Removi.ng the trash from the trails will be done by. first opening. the access roads and allowing
people to move in. The trash it self will be moved by the people and brought down to the entrance for
the town to remove.
People will be separated into groups according to location of work to be done
Group I-

B. Fixing the bank for the ATV s will require the people to arrive and dig the holes. If power
equipment will be used, adulls will do that. '111en the poles used for the fencing material will be carried
down the trail, put into place, and buried. If not assembled prior to it being put into place, it will be
assembled down there. After that the people will take plants and bury them along the side of the bank.
C Fixing the foot bridges will be split up into two teams, one for the front bridge and one for the
back bridge. The people will be asked to repair any damage to the bridges and to arrange the trail
around it so it leads to the bride and only the bridge. This will include moving rocks and logs.
D The trail clean up will be done by teams of people assigned to trails. The work will be done in
groups. The tasks needing complc;tion include, removing the brush, removing fallen trccs (work done
prior to arrival), and moving of leaves.
3. To improve the marking around the park contains two parts
A. In order to fix the sign rocks will be placed around the base. Also' dirt will be carted in and
the area filled in with rocks. The plants will then be placed in ther~ and it will be finished.
B. The trails will be marked by pairs of people along the trail. In the front of the trail, there will
be a post that was precut containing the name of the trail and color of the trail.

The amount of people needed will be a large. As the amount of voluntccrs increase, we will
also nccd more people to assist in keeping everything running. The hours taken in the project depend on
the amount of people and how much is actually accomplished. From beginning to end, this should take
more than a hundred man hours.
The people will come from many places. I w.m search out people from the community, who
want to volunteer. I will also look to local organizations including Scenic Hudson and the Army National
Guard. I will also look to the local scout troops, including my own. There will be a mixture of adults
and youth. The adults should number more than the youth, but that is not certain. There will be a mix
of nonseouting types too.
The organization of the people will be done in groups, which will be named teams. The people
from a particular organization will be kept together. I wiUpersonally work with a representative of the
organization and layout the goals and tasks I hope they will accomplish. The scouts will run in
patrols, led by a member of their troop who will work directly with me.
The risk associated with the project varies. In order to decrease, this, I will do, all cutting and
use of power tools at a different time than when there is a large nw;nberof volunteers present. Gloves '
will be provided to all. There will no heavy moving by people who are at risk of injury (i.e.: small
kids).
For emergencies and first aid there will be a tarp set up in the park by the entrance with
capable people present to respond to an emergency. There also will b~ a phone there to call in an
emergency requiring a ambulance or other assistance.
