Subject: Accident on 12/15/98
At approximately 7:45AM Steven Churchill was flagging the intersection of St.
Nicholas Road near the intersection of New Hackensack Road. A car turned fran New
Hackensack Road onto st. Nicholas Road. Steve was standing in the road with a red
flag attempting to stop the car. Unfortunately steve did not realize the sun had jsut
cane up directly behind him \\hich blinded the oncaning driver and Steve was struck by
the vehicle. llie to the fact the mrk zone was so close to New Hackensack Road it
muld appear the driver did not have time to react to the sun's glare before striking
Steve which resulted in an unfortunate accident.
Steve was transported to Vassar Hospital by Sloper arrl admitted. At this time his
known injuries are a chipped bone in his knee and a concussion. Hopefully he will be
alright.
As a followup I spoke with all of our employees concerning ~rk zone safety
emphasizing the addition of the sun I s glare as sanething we must be very aware of.
