Wappinger Town Board
Town Hall
Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
Gentlemen:
This letter submits II\Y resignation as a member of the Town of Wappinger
Recreation Commission effective immediately. I learned of II\Y reappointment
as a member when I returned from an absence of several days, and I do
appreciate your action. Hen-lever, in light of your failure to reappoint
Mr. William Ryan as Chairman, I do not feel that I can continue to serve.
We all have our faults and our 1veaknesses; we all make mistakes. Hr. liYan
made some. But Hr. Ryan got some things done in the interests of the
people of the Town that would not have been done without his zeal and
persistent effort. It was unfortunate that the actions and recommendations
of the Recreation Commission frequent:!Jr did not receive the response
they deserved by your Board. This made it necessary for the Commission,
usually with Mr. Ryan as spokesman, to reiterate its requests for action
and for the end of what seemed to us to be stalling and unnecessary
delays in getting simple things done.
It was a pleAsure to serve on the Commission with Mr. lliYan as Chairman
and the other men who so willingly spent ma11Y' hours seeking to develop
a strong basis for future recreation opportunities for the people of
our Town. ltr work took me out of town frequently and I missed some
meetings; but I carmot recall a single instance (and this includes
reading minutes of meetings I missed) when the Recreation Commission
did not ,ct with complete unanimity. Sometimes it took hours of talk
and !:]vision of earlier ide.s, but we always came out 100% together
in our concern for the well-being of the people of Wappinger. Thus,
Mr. Ryan, speaking or writing on matters of recreation, was acting for
all of us. The people of the Town owe hSm a large debt of gratitude.
My chitlr regret is that we ",rare not able to acquire the Kappenstein
property before we left office, blit you men know better thanRJ. we do
why that was not done. I hope you realize how important it is that
it still be done and that you will aet positively in seeing that it is
done soon.
Sincerely,
Harold B. Ingalls
