1976-08-30 PHA Public Hearing was held by the Town Board of the Town of
Wappinger on August 340, 1976, at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village
of Wappingers Falls, New York, on a proposed Local Law Entitled
"Prohibition of Discharge of Firearms and Long Bows".
Supervisor Diehl opened the Hearing at 7:35 P.M.
Present:
Louis Diehl, Supervisor
Louis Clausen, Councilman
Leif Jensen , Councilman
Nicholas Johnson, Councilman
Frank Versace, Councilman
Elaine Snowden, Town Clerk
The Town Clerk offered for the record the Affidavits of Posting
and Publication duly signed and notarized by Albert Osten of the
W&SD News. (These Affidavits are attached hereto and made a part
thereof of the Minutes of this Hearing).
Supervisor Diehl asked if anyone wished to speak for or against
this Local Law.
Mr. Clausen objected to the wording namely "shall" in Section II.
He thought this was too mandatory; he would like comments from the
Town Justices, if they agreed with the wording.
Ernst Martin thought the Town should adopt the Local Law as it
stands; it would be beneficial to the whole Town.
Mr. Gaynor asked about fines, "not to exceed sum of $250.00"?
Mr. Johnson said they should not be lenient, violators of this
law should be fined.
Mrs. Martin told the Board the law of not discharging 500' from
a residence is not observed, they find bullets very close to
their home in the back yard and she has seen some discharged which
has alarmed her.
No one else spoke.
MR. JOHNSON moved to close the Public Hearing, seconded by
Mr. Versace and unanimously carried.
The Hearing closed at 7:45 P.M.
