What Is tbe NYS Envl onlDental Protection Fund?
The: NYS Legislature c ated the Environmental Protection Fund
(EPF) in 1993 to provi a reliable. dedicated source of funding for
a variety of key cnviro ental programs in NYS. The EPF is
funded by a dedicated rtion of the revenues from the NYS real
estate transfer tax, wmc ensures a reliable 5tream of revenue to
implement EPF project Each year, the NYS legislature must
appropriate this revcnu to the EPF.
The EPF II being held o*taael
For the first time in 13 ears due to political infishting. the EPF is currently being left out of the
NYS budget. $200 mil Oil doUars is already avaUable to fund th.e EPF, but /$ 1I0t being
dedicated due to pol 'fuubll",. Unless the Governor, Senate, and Assembly can put
politics aside and come 0 an agreement, the EPF will be bankrupt in the 2006 - 2007 budget.
