Attention: Constance O. Smith, Supervisor
Reference: Alpine Wells
Dear Supervisor Smith & Board Members:
As a follow-up to our previous correspondence dated November 5th, 2001. Please be
advised that this office has obtained all pertinent qualitative data for the Alpine wells
from the Dutchess County Health Department. The records cover the period from 1992
to the present
Results indicate only minimal Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) violations for lead
and copper content (both distribution and source). All other parameters were within
acceptable ranges.
Mr. Daniel O'Connor, P.E. of the Dutchess County Health Department stated that he
could not recall any major qualitative problems with the wells over the years. He also
stated that his Department has particularly looked at the Principle Organic Chemical
(pac's) including MTBE (a gasoline additive), since the site is in close proximity to the
Route 9 commercial corridor. MTBE was detected in very small quantities in 1997, but
has not been detected since.
This information is submitted to aid in your upcoming Workshop Session on the matter.
Please feel free to contact this office if you have any questions or comments.
