1970-04-10 RECEIVED (I,PH 1 \) 1970 ELAINE H. SNOWDEN Supervisor Louis Diehl Town of Wappinger Wappingers Falls, New York Dear Mr. Diehl; Mrs. Melvin Engleman of the Wappingers Conservation Association Inc., has brought to the attention of the Dutchess County Flood Forecasting Committee, what appears to be a problem concerning a newly constructed dam on the "second pond" east of Chelsea Ridge Apartments. LeRoy Fein, Chairman Dutchess County Flood Forecasting Committee 19 Yates Blvd. Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601 With this letter I am suggesting that the Town of Wappinger check with the owners of the pond to see whether they had received a permit for the construction of the dam and/or pond itself. As far as I know, any dam 10 feet or higher, must have the necessary approval of the State Conservation Department. Because of water flowing on both sides of the existing dam, I was unable to measure it. I would also ask the State Consergation Department to check reported problems from neighbors in the area as to high water reported by them as a result of this pond. You might want to check with MrS. Engleman. She has the names of these residents. If the above named agency is not contacted and if the present situation is not checked, the Flood Forecasting Co~mittee can not be responsible for any loss of life, injury or property damage if the mentioned dam or earthen ~ructure adjacent to the dam, gives way.
