1969-11-20 SPM4 A Special Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger was held on Thursday, Nov. 20, J969, at the Town Hall, Mill Street, Wappingers Falls, New York.. Notice had been sent to the members on Nov. 17, 1969. Supervisor Diehl opened the meeting at 7:15 P.M. Roll Call Vote: Louis Diehl, Supervisor G. Donald Finnan, Councilman Leonce, Heady, Councilman James Mills, Councilman Elaine H. Snowden, Town Clerk Absent: Louis Clausen, Councilman Others Present: William Horton, Superintendent of Highways Bid had been received for the purchase of a FWD Four Wheel Drive Dump Truck from Hudson River Sales Corp. for the sum of $18,762.00 A Bid had been received for the purchase of Snow Plow Equipment from Hudson River Sales Corp. for the total bid price of $4,589.00. A Bid had been received for the purchase of one HyOraulic Sander, from Hudson River Sales Corp. for the sum of $2,525.00. The Superintendent of Highways recommended these bl_ds be awarded to Hudson River Sales Corp. at the prices given. MR. MILLS moved to accept the Highway Superintendent's recommendation and award the bids for FWD Four Wheel Drive Dump Truck for the sum of $18.,762.00, Snow Plow Equipment for the total bid price of $4,589.00, and one Hydraulic Sander for the sum off$2,525.00 to Hudson River Sales,Corp. Seconded by Mr. Finnan. Motion Unanimously Carried The following Resolution was offered by COUNCILMAN HEADY, who moved its adoption: WHEREAS, the Town Superintendent of Highways has been requested to remove snow from County roads, and to sand or otherwise treat them for the purpose of removing the danger of ice and snow, by the Commissioner of Public Works of Dutchess County, in accordance with Article 6, Section 135-a of the Highway Law, now therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Town Superintendent be and is herein authorized to perform such work as is found necessary, at the hourlyrate as fixed by the State Commissioner of Transportation for the renting and hiring of such equipment, for the Winter Season 1969-1970. Motion Unanimously Carried The following letter was presented: Nov. 20, 1969 Town Board Town of Wappinger Mill Street Wappingers Falls, N.Y. Re: Recreation Site (Jekoce Acres, Town of Wappinger) Gentlemen: Kindly be advised that on November 17, 1969 the Board of°Directors of the Jewish Community Center agreed to sell Jekoce Acres to the Town of Wappinger for $400,000.00 The property consists of 60+ acres of land with facilities for boating, swimming, fishing, picnicking and camping. Included in the sale would be a large sandy beach surrounding pavilion, camp buildings, picnic tables and fireplaces, fall field and parking lot. The existing facilities comprise approximately 20 acres, leaving 40 acres of Woodland for future development. The above offering was made through my office by Alan Flans, President of the Center, with whom I have been negotiating. Kindly advise at your convenience when the Board would be able to inspect the property with an official of Jekoce and the Recreation Commission. I have personally inspected the property with Hugh J. Brancato Mr. Diehl thought it was worth thinking about in case the Alexander - Klein property fell through; they should not close the doors on anything. The Board members agreed to meet at Jekoce Acres on Saturday, Nov. 29, 1969 at 9:00 A.M. with Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman of the Recreation Commission and an official of Jekoce to inspect the property, Mr. Lapar, Engineer to the Town, was asked to be present, also. Mr. Mills stated that he had attended two meetings with the School Board in reference to the three new schools they say are needed in the district. They will meet again on Dec. 4, 1969, in an effort to bring all the facts and figures to the public and ask them for their support.
