Special Meeting of the Town Board, Town of Wappinger was

held on Thursday evening, June 27th, 1963, in the Town
Hall, Mill Street, Wappingers Falls, N. Y.
Present: -Supervisor -Richard H. Linge, Justices of the Peace
William Bulger & Vincent Francese, Councilmen -Malcolm Hait
& George Robinson, Town Attorney -Judson Williams, Superin-
tendent of Highways, Kenneth Croshier, Assessors -Kenneth
Thornton & Joseph Fulton, Zoning Inspector -Joseph Ludewig,
Town Clerk -Helen L. Travis.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Supervisor
Richard H. Linge.
Upon motion of Councilman Robinson and seconded by Council-
man Hait the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
RESOLVED that the resolution adopted by the Town
Board at its regular meeting held June 6, 1963, be
amended by adding to said resolution the following:
"FURTHER RESOLVED that the map showing the newly
designated and defined elections districts of the
Town presented to this. meeting be and the same here -
is adopted as the official map for this purpose."
Upon motion of Justice of Peace Bulger and seconded by
Justice of Peace Francese the following resolution was
unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS the bridge over Wappingers Creek at the
Hamlet of New Hamburg, known as Drake's Drawbridge, has been
condemned as unsafe by the DuttEhess County Superintendent of

Highways and
WHEREAS the replacement of said bridge by a newly con-
structed bridge is urgently needed and
WHEREAS the absence of a vehicular bridge at New
Hamburg is a direct threat to the safety, comfort and con-
venience of the general public and particularly to the residents
of the Hamlet of New Hamburg and
WHEREAS said Drake's Drawbridge spans navigable water,
i. e. Wappingers Creek, and
WHEREAS commercial water traffic utilizing Wappingers
Creek at this point is negligible and
WHEREAS the cost of constructing a new drawbridge
would be substantially higher than the cost of conktructing a
rigid span bridge and
WHEREAS A rigid span bridge could be constructed at
this point providing substantial clearance above the high water
level pf the creek thereby permitting essentially full use of
the navigable waters for all anticipated river traffice and
WHEREAS, pursuant to law, permission to construct a
rigid span bridge over navigable waters must be obtained from
the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger
New York, hereby records its determination that a rigid span
bridge to replace Drake's Drawbridge would be in the best in-
terests of the tampayers of the Town of Wappinger, and the public
in general, and hereby recommends to andstrongly urges that
United States Army Corps of Engineer grant permission to con-
struct a new bridge to replace Drake's Drawbridge of the rigid
span type.
A copy of this was sent to Mr. Emmet Hughes, Superintendent of
Public Works, State of New York, State Campus, Albany, N. Y
Motion was made by Councilman Hait and seconded by Councilman
Robinson that the meeting Adjourn.
