~rs. Gloria Johnson, a resident of Rolling Ridge Estates, appear~d toforo
the Commission a~d requested assistance from the Commission in improvi~g
the limited playground facilities at the apartment complex. She pointec
out that the facilities provided are not adequate and that even though t~era
is a swimming pool installed it has never been filled so that it can b8 us~d
by the residents. Mrs. Johnson also stated that a large hole had bccn dLg
(she thought it was done for sewer work) and it has now filled with water
and constitutes a safety hazard.
The Commission advised Mrs. Johnson that, although they were sympathetic,
little can be done by the Commission because, the Town does not own the :and~
As far as the large hole is concerned, it was suggested that Mrs. Johnson
contact the Town of Wappinger Building Inspector to bring the matter to his
attention.
It was also suggested that Mrs. Johnson and other residents of the complex get
together and approach the management in an attempt to get them to improve
conditions.
Director of Recreation
Mr. Rogers submitted his report for the Month of May 1972 and his 1972
Summer Program Report. Copies will be prepared and distributed to all
,Commissioners.
M~. Rogers reported that he had received a letter from Mr. Bruce Reynolds
of the ~appingers Central School District No.1 with regard to the cost of
buses for transporting children participating in the summer swim program.
Mr. Reynolds advised that the buses will cost ~365 for the saason. ~r.
Mourer made the recommendation that the Commission accept these charges.
Commissioners una~imously agreed.
It was also further agreed that the swim program must be limited to only thos~
children who are already able to swim because facilities 'cannot be provided
for the non-swimmer this year.
Mr. Rogers reported that the Tennis Clinic has been very successful -~ that
the sccon~ fiVe-wack course will commence June 15th.

~r. Porter reported that tho infield hod been cut on May 24th and lS =Bady
for clay. ~r. Mourer assured Mr. Porter that clay will be brought ~n sone-
time'r;ext vJeek provided the trucks can get into the area.
~r. Porter rep6rted that he had received a bid from A-1 Fence Co. for winos
on the backstop. A bid of ~250 was given to provide two (2) 10' sections,
12' high. The Commission gave approval for the installation of these wings.

~r. Maurer also reported that some church groups had requested use of the
oark and received aocroval.

^ copy of a letter doted June 2, 1972 from Allan E. Rappleyea, Town Attorney,
to the Town Planning Board was read. Mr. Rappleyea advised the Planning
Board to reject the offer of the conveyance of recreation land to the Town
of Wappinger since at least one property owner has objected to the conveyance
of this LJr-ld to the To\m. . .
The Rcc~Bation Commission will take no further action an this matter.

possibility of building a center. Mr. Garren is to check through the 3urvey
questionnaires returned by crea residents and will ~rovide Mrs. Beahan with
the names of those persons who indicated a willingness to be of help to the

which preliminary approval is given for subdivision of Spook Hill Es~ates.
3. A memo dated May 22, 1972 from Dr. Robert W. Young, Superintendent of the
Wappingers Central School District No.1, in which he requested Commission
sponsorship of camps for handicapped children in ord~r that bus transporta-
tion can be provided. A letter w~ll be sent to the Town Board asking their
opinion as to how the matter should be handled.
