RECREATION COMMISSION
Minutes of March 9, 1972 Meeting
~cxt Meeting - April 6, 1972
7:30 P.M.
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
on March 9, 1972 at 7:30 P.M. at the Town Hall.
Attending: Messrs. Hugh J. Maurer, George Schlathaus and James V. Porter
Absent:
Mrs. Alfred Arkell
Mrs. R. L. Beahan
Messrs. Richard Garren and John C. Eiasotti
Mr. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as presented.
Survey Questionnaire
Mr. Schlathaus requested that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. Herman Osten,
Editor, Southern Dutchess News, for his cooperation in making the surveys
available to the public.
Approximat~ly 110 additional questionnaires have been received and will ce
forwarded to Mr. Garren to be collated.
Hill N' Dale
It was brought to the attention of the Commission that the developer plans
to provide a recreation area for those residents of Hill N' Dale. It ~~s
agreed that a letter be sent to the Planning Eoard asking what provisions
have been made with Hill N' Dale to insure that a recreation area will, in
fact, be developed. It was also suggested that the Commission be advised
of the amount of bond required.
Schoonmaker Homes - All Anqels & Hopewell Roads
It was noted that the Recreation Commission's letter of September 30, 1971
to the Planning Eoard with regard to the above development has remained
unanswered. This letter requested that the Commission be advised if land
had been dedicated for recreation purposes. A follow-up letter will be
sent the Planning Eoard.
Robinson Lane Recreation Area
Commissioners discussed the two junk yards presently OccupYlng both sides
of the entrance to the above area. A letter will be sent Miss Susan J.
Pike, Zoning Administrator, in an attempt to get action in having this
condition corrected.
Mr. Schlathaus suggested that arrangements be made with the New York
Telephone Company to have a pay telephone installed in the Field House.
Mr. Arthur "Tex" Roy will be contacted and arrangements made.
Trautman Reoort
Commissioners expressed concern about the actual location of property on
Robinson Lane which is being discussed as a possible landfill si~e. It
was Qgrced that a letter should be sent to the Town Board expressing concern
about the location of the proposed landfill operation.

The secretary was directe to contact the New York Conservation Depar~ffient
with regard to ordering trees for spring planting.
Castle Point Proocrtv Acquisition
Mr. Maurer and Mr. Schlathaus reported that on Wednesday, March 15, 1972,
they will go to Philadelphia, Pa. with Town Officials and expect to completo
arrangements for procurement of the above property.
New York State Recreation and Park Societv, Inc. Conference
A letter was received from the President of the above society inoicating
that the 1972 Conference will be held at the Granit 2 Hotel, Kerhonkson,
New York from Sunday, April 30 to Wednesday, May 3, 1972. A letter wili
be sent the Town Board requesting permission for members of the Commission
"to attend.
Corresoondence Received
~ A let\er dated 2/24/72 from Mr. John Terry, Director of Contin~ing
Education, Wappingers Central School,regarding a meeting to be held on
March 15, 1972 at Roy C. Ketcham HighSchool. The meeting is plannec
with local recreation commissions in the hope that plans can be made to
provide programs for Senior Citizens. Mr. James V. Porter will attend
the meeting and Mrs. Arkell will be contacted and requested to attend.
~ A letter dated 2/25/72 from Mr. J. J. Ennesser, President of the To~vn
of Wappinger Little League, was received offering assistance in coordina~ing
the use of both Hughsonville and Quiet Acres Fields for Little League
programs as well as other proposed programs.
~ Copy of a letter dated 3/1/72 from Dr. Robert W. Young, Superintendent
of Schools, inviting participation in exploring joint municipal-school
recreational opportunities for the people of the District.
Mr. Schlathaus received permission to purchase a new flag for Martz Field,
to repl~ce that which was recently stolen,and also to obtain a flag for
the Robinson Lane Recreation Area.
The next Commission meeting is scheduled for April 6, 1972 at 7:30 P.M.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.M.
