TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 8, 1973 MEETING
------------------------------------------------------
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission
was held at the Town Hall on February 8, 1973 at 7:50 P.M.
Present:
Hugh J. Maurer
George Schlathaus
Richard Garren
Jean Beahan
James Porter
W. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation
Co
Absent:
Theresa Arkell
Director of Recreation
The Wrestling Program was off to a good start; thirty-five to forty
children attended; Billy Steinhaus is conducting it. The Women's
"Slymastics" Program started and looked like it would be a big success.
The space they had was very crowded and he thought two nights would
be better than just the one night. Ketcham High School and Wappinger
Junior High were booked already; Myers Corners School was available,
but they would have to pay the custodian. Mr. Rogers asked for per-
mission to make arrangements to use Myers Corners for one night.
The Commission seemed to think if the adults were really participating
in 'this 'program, they should try to provide two nights.
The ski program, need~es to say, wasn't doing too well.
Mr. Williams is in charge of the ski program at Parkers World; Mr. Rogers
was in tou~h with him but hasn't heard from him further.

The Commission discussed the recreation area at Fleetwood. The Highway
Superintendent has been dumping "junk fill~' when they are in the vicin-
ity, but it is nowhere near filled. Mr. Maurer thought they could
possibly rake it through, plant some rye grass for quick cover and have
some use of it ~n the Spring. However, nothing permanent could be put
in until there o/as a lot more fill added. They would also have to fill
in by the pump ~ouse.

Quiet Acres

area in Quiet Acres at night for sleigh riding. He would be willing
to go over and put lights on and off. The other members did not
think this was a feasible idea. Mr. Schlathaus suggested a timing
device, but it must be secure, otherwise they would have more vandal-
ism problems.
