COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER
Mr. Maurer gave a brief summary on the subject of this meeting. Should we
try and obtain school facilities co-ordinated with Town Recreation? We
should survey our needs and what parts we could use or loan with-in our Town.
There has been talk of a Youth Center, do we really need a Youth Center or
Community Center, is it for the best interest for all. We invited Dr. Young
to discuss the school facilities available and how the school feels about it.
Dr. Young said the schools are available and the Board of Education's concept
of the community is to provide on a non-commercial profit for education,
civic, recreation or social groups the use of school facilities. Anyone may
apply for use, as long as it doesn't interfere with the school program. The
only price tag would be for overtime for custodial services to keep the school,
open.
Mr. Maurer stated there would be superv~s~on supplied from the Recreation
Commission even if we had a Youth Center as well as for the school.
Mr. Rogers asked how soon in advance does anyone have to make a request for
using the school facilities.
Dr. Young said the central front office will be the place to obtain available
dates, the sooner the better.
Mr. Maurer addressed a question to a group of young people called the
lIRe-generation Group", would you have any objections about using school
facilities after regular school hours? In the past, we did receive a feeling
that you didn't want to return to school after being there all day.
They expressed thay would like to have onecof the schools open for roller
skating.
Mr. Rogers said'Mr. Schreiber knows of an outfit who will come in and rent
skates out and guarantee no damage to floor. Tre Hyde Park school has a
program with roller skating that is working out well.

A discussion followed on the subject and comment was made that the Commission
would probably need to have paid employees as it would work out better than
trying to get volunteers. Mr. Rogers was requested to contact Mr. Schreiber
and obtain additional information on roller skating.
REGENERATION CONCERT
The Re-generation Group was planning on a concert sponsored through the
Drama Club at John Jay school. They expect 9 bands and would like to use
Town of Wappinger Recreation Area. They plan to hire 2 Sheriffs from noon to
dusk, profit from affair would go for a Youth Centerand education.
Mr. Maurer said the greatest concern would be the fear of another Woodstock.
The group sai& they would limit it to only kids from Roy C. Ketcham and John
Jay. A suggestion was made to limit it to 2 bands and try and build up the
confidence in towns people by having a controlled concert. Also, it would
have to be restricted to residents of town. . They said they would think about
it and come back.
Mr. Maurer suggested to reduce the time and number of bands and return on
June 7th meeting for final answer on Robinson Lane as the Commission would
have to confer with the Town Board. They decided to try another location
but would let us know on June 7th.
Dr. Young said he was in favor of starting on a regular basis for recreation
in school, He also advised that the Myers Corners School gym and cafeteria
for refreshments is available.
Mr, Maurer thanked Dr. .Young for coming to our meeting and giving the schools
position for recreation facilities available to town.
Meeting adjourned at 9:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted:
