COUNCIL FOR HANDICAP
Mrs. Barbara Robitaille, Wendy Road, Wappinger Falls a representative from
ACLD, a Council for Handicap children and adults. Mrs. Robitaille advised
the Commission that ACLD represented various Dutchess County Councils. She
requested help in transporting handicap children to a special 6 week summer
camp. She was not happy with the ~l per mile charged by Wappingers Central
School District and her Council was able to get a cheaper price from a private
bus company operating on a profit basis as compared with school operating as
a non-profit organization.
Mr. Maurer advised her that our budget was already submitted for 1974 but
requested her and other members to come to our December 6th meeting. In
reference to buses a suggestion was made to contact Dr. Young and maybe set
up a special meeting by their Council.
WAPPINGER PARK HOMES
Mr. Maurer advised Mrs. Wells that he was down to Wappinger Park area and
looked situation over and would recommend to Board to take over area if we
can get a Lease from Mr. Hankin. We will contact our Town Attorney, Allen
Rappelyea to set up a meeting with Mr. Hankin's attorney to work it out.
Then we can follow through and notify Town Highway to fill up area with debris
such as bricks, etc. and when possible we would put in a machine to mow.
Mr. Garren asked what guarantee would we have about mini-bikes running around
area after it is cleared and made suitable for recreation site. Another factor
is noise from mini-bikes which would probably bring complaints from neighbors.
A suggestion was made to put up signs restricting mini-bikes. Mrs. Wells said
there were some trees that need to be taken out, as well as, some over grown
shrubs. Mr. Maurer assured her that when the legal problems were worked out
it would be done.
Mr. Maurer requested to have October 25th for next meeting to discuss the Fall,
Winter & Summer programs with the Director of Recreation.
