TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MARCH 28, 1974 MEETING
April 25, 1974
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Com~ission was held
at the Town Hall on March 28, 1974 at 7:30 p.m.
Attending: ~Bssrs. Hugh J. Maurer, Joseph Ennesser, Richard Garren,
James V. Porter and Mrs. Jean Beahan;
W. Thomas Rogers, Director of Recreation
Absent: ~rs. Alfred Arkell and Mr. George Schlathaus
WAPPI~GElS InNS 3ASEEALL LEAGUE
Representatives from the Wappingers Ions Easeball League(Eud Ross and Jill
Lynch) were looking for financial help for this league. This league has
14 tea~s ranging in age from 17 to 23 years old and is sponsored by the
A~erican Legion and Score Card Program(advertisements). The league is open
to WappinGer residents and need a field to practice on. Games are presently
held at night in Kingston and Poughkeepsie. Mr. Maurer advised them that
the Commission needs a years notice, as our budget has already been approved
for 1974. They were advised to contact Mr. Ennesser to try and work cut a
schedule for use of one of our fields for practice. They expressed to the
Co~missioners what an outstanding job they presently are dding in the
Recreation Program.
A~GEL BROOK ESTATES
Three representatives from Angel Brook Estates - Messrs. Mike Kelly, Frank
Mantillo and AllenHal~ (42 Tor Road) were present. Mr. Ong expressed that
the Commission did a lot of work up in Angel Brook and presented a sketch
diagraming the area to show what their projections would be on the recreation
area. They discussed putting up a small backstop & benches with trees and
shrubs on opposite end, towards brook where drainage is needed. 'Mr. Maurer
suggested a swing and slide and the Commission would see what would be the
cheapest way for drainage. We will come out and see area when it is a little
more dried and request the Town Engineer to come with them. Mr. Ong asked
when would they find out when it could be installed. Mr. Maurer said we will
get an estimate by next meeting.

Mr. Maurer entertained a motion to approve minutes of March 7, 1974. Mr.
En~esser s~id only one correction he saw was to change Wolfs to Hopewell
Sporting Goods. Motion seconded by Mr. Garren. Carried unanimously.

Nr. ~ogers asked how are we going to deter outside Wappinger residents from
using courts. A discussion followed on guideline for this problem and other
probleTTls that undoubtedly \rJill come up \rJith this new program. One suggestion
was to have en I.D. Card for Town residents which could be used for any or all
Town Programs including skiing. Mr. Garren said he has a Town insignia and
would locate it by next meeting.

~r. Rogers said repeats 'are starting to call back on summer job applicants
and Gave Secretary a copy of meffiorandum sent to Colleges and Universities in
reference to Summer employment as Directors(3) ';rom June 24th through August 16th.

Two representativcs Messrs. Steve Curran and 3~ian 01Kane(39 Wildwood Drive)
were present to discuss subject of possibly designating flying site, preferably
Robin"son Lanc. ~r. Otl<ane is President of Mid-Hudson Stuntmasters ~nd expressed
apology of Dr. Jol,n W. Philbrick for being unable to attend due to en unexpected
e~crgency in family. A letter was read from Dr. Philbrick outlining in detail
what their needs would be in reference to size of area and liabilitv protection
piovided by their club; with request for access to sanitary facilitles. He
said we fly on wires on 100 foot circle. The Robinson Lane field on right in
bacl< would be ideal and would help seed area after bull dozing was done to level
area. ~r. Maurer said bull dozing was already planned for area and would like

Councilman Loif Jensen was present and advised the Commissioners he received a
call in reference to a Soccer League which needed a field for practice. Al-

and Saturday(morning). Some schools are already committed to Little League but
Ketcham does have B soccer field. Mr. Ennesser said he would contact Mr. Richard
Siegmund,(297-8209) Manager of Soccer Team and try to work out something.

Tho Com~;issioners directed secretary to send letter to Town Board and Planning
Eoard recommending approval of money in lieu of land but in viewing map in
reference to Thornacres Three(3), we definitely are looking for land for

The RocroQtion Co~mission reQuested letter be sent to Town Board recommending
Town incrcase money from slod to $300 on sub~division per lot in lieu of land
for recreation arcas.

[~r. Garren reported he attended tho March 14th mee~ing of Hughsonville Fire
Co~mission8rs and have permission to use recreation area again this summer.
Also, oaseball field is not going to be a parking lot and they're keeping fence
up. Fire Co~missior.ers said they were going to repair fence and parking lot
projection is not for another 5 years or so.
