1974-12-05 TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF DECEMBER 5, 1974 MEETING Next meeting - December 19, 1974 The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held at the Town Hall on December 5, 1974. The meeting was opened at 7:45 P.M. Present: Hugh J. Maurer, George Schlathaus, Joseph Ennesser, Richard Garren and Laura Zick Absent: Mrs. Alfred Arkell, Jean Beahan and James Porter HOCKEY Mr. Nick Kustas attended the nlB~ting to speak to the Commission about the hockey equipment that had been ordered. He supplied the Commission with a list of the~~quipment. Mr. Maurer asked Mr. Kustas when the equipment would be picked up and Mr. Kustas said it would probably be picked up Saturday, 12/7/74. Mr. Kustas asked the Commission if they would want him to store the equipment. The Commission agreed to have Mr. Kustas store it. JAYCEES Mr. James Eberhard of the Wappinger Jaycees also attended the meeting. He had approached Mr. Ennesser previously about the use of the Myers Corners School cafeteria for a Saturday morning program. Mr. Eberhard explained that the Jaycees wished to start a program for mentally handicapped children and he wanted to know if the Commission would allow the Jaycees to use the services of their Custodian. Mr. Eberhard said they planned to have volunteers play table games with the children. The purpose of the program is to provide the children with an environment in which they could play without ridicule from other children and also to act as a babysitting service for the parents of these children. The Commission agreed that the Jaycees had an excellent idea. Mr. Ennesser said he would send a list of the planned activities to the school to be attached to the Cpmmissions contract. Mr. Maurer asked Mr. Eberhard to provide him with a list of materials that the Jaycees needed to get started. Mr. Maurer suggested the Commission take an inventory of the table top games that were on hand and loan what they could to the Jaycees. Everyone agreed. PLAYGROUND SIGNS The Secretary was requested to send a letter to the Town Board clarifying the playground signs stating when the parks would be open. Mr. Ennesser said he would give a list of the signs to be printed to Mr. Bill Horton. SKI TRIPS r~r. Hagan sent a letter to Laura Zick stating the prices of ski trips. The Commission agreed to a day trip to Catamount ski area on December 28, 1974,and a weekend trip to Killington ski area in Vermont on January 10, Page 2---Recreation Commission---12/5/74 1975 thru January 12,1975. Registration would be at the Town Hall a~ld anyone wishing to go must register and pay in full on or before 12/20/74 for the day trip. The deadline for the weekend trip was set for 1/l/75 and a $30.00 deposit is required. Laura Zick and Joseph Ennesser were to take care of all advertising for the two trips. ROBI NSON LMJE Mr. Maurer asked the Commission how it felt about using the back area of the Robinson Lane Recreation Area as a lake. The Commission agreed that it was an excellent idea as the area was not suitable for much else. Mr. Maurer said he would like to see the area dug out within at least two years. The Commission would look into ways of accomplishing this. The next meeting was set for December 19, 1974 at 7:30 P.M. It was mentioned that the Planning Board will discuss the Cranberry Hills development at their meeting, December 16, 1974 and anyone from the Commissio~ who could make should go. Mr. Garren motioned that the minutes of the 11/7/74 meeting be approved. The motion was seconded by Mr. Schlathaus and carried. Mr. Schlathaus motioned that the meeting be adjourned. It was seconded by Mr. Maurer and carried. The meeting closed at 9:35 P.M.
