TOWN OF WAPPINGER
RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES
JANUARY 18, 1979
Next Meeting---February 1-5, 1979
The Recreation COnunission of the Town of Wappinger met on January
18, 1979 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Wappingers Falls, New Yo~k.
Present: liugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Mary Schmalz, Ron Petro,
Vernon Smith, and Joe Ennesser, Director.
The purpose of this meeting was mainly to go over the 1979 budget
and set up line items. There was a lot of cutting to do since the
budget had been cut quite a bit. The development of new areas had
been taken out of the Recreation Budget and would be taken from the
Federal Revenue Sharing Fund. Mr. Ennesser switched around his
programs and cut some out in order to stay within the budget.
SCHLATHAUS'S PROPERTY
Mr. Maurer informed the Board he had been in touch with the Town
Board and recommended a tenant for Mr. Schlathaus' s house. The
person was Mr. John Vorndran, presently working for our Highway
Department with plans for retirement and he offered to pay $200.00
rent plus utilities and also to maintain the house and property.
Mr. Maurer had been touch with the Attorney, at the direction of
the Town Board, to draw up an agreement, not a lease, for their
approval. The Board and Mr. Maurer preferred not to have a lease,
in the event they wanted the house for another purpose. ~r.;Diehl
had given the agreement to Mr. Maurer that day and he discussed it
with the Commissioners. The Attorney had sent a regular "Lease
Agreement" used for apartments, with small print and many paragraphs,
plus added stipulations typed in at the bottom. Mr. Maurer and Mr.
Petro went over this "Lease" and were not too happy with it, especially
Paragraph 39~ also they felt it should be no less than six months,
and a few other details Mr. Maurer planned to take up with Mr. Diehl.
He would keep them informed of the happenings in this matter.

WINTER PROGRAMS
4
Mr. Ennesser reported that all programs were going and doing well.
The school was doing better with their facilities and giving notice
~hen. the programs had to be cancelled.
ROLLER SKATING
The planned trip to the new skating rink was off---seems the owners
of the rink never did put us down for that date: and the sale of
tickets had not yet gotten off the ground yet, so this subject needed
discussing. . The COmmission had planned to pay 50c toward each ticket
on the night of Feb. 12th, 1979 and Mr. Ennesser had advertised this
fact, but not a one had been sold. He found out that there were
many organizations having skating parties, maybe it was the wrong
time, maybe we weren't contributing enoughh,. Mrs. Schmalz felt we
should forget it since we now had the rink in the neighborhood:
concentrate on something we do not have. When we didn I t have it in
the area, we took trips to Port Ewen and it worked out fine, but now
that kids can go down the street anytime they feel like it, they don't
need us. The COmmissioners agreed and Roller Skating was dropp~d
from the Recreation COmmission schedule. Something else would have
to take over.
BASEBALL BIDS (EQUIPMENT)
Bids had been sent out and would be opened on the 15th of February
1979 by the Town Clerk. Mr. Maurer directed that we have a meeting
that night in order to recommend to the Town Board on the awarding
of that bid.
There was no other business to come before the Board---it was a cold
cold night brrrrrrrrrrr and everyone wanted to get home fast.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
