RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES

The Regular Meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held
an September 3, 1981 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of Wappinger. Falls,
Dutchesa County, New York.
Mr. Maurer opened the meeting at 7140 p.m.
Presentl Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Joseph Ma_trioanni, Mary Schmalz and
Bill Wood.
COMMISSIONER OF PARKS
Before getting into the regular meeting, Mary Kay Vrba Commissioner of Parks
gave a short talk and showed slide_ on the County Parke and their facilities.
The minutes of the July 9, 1981 meeting wers approved on a motion by Bill
Wood seconded by Joseph Mastrioanni.
SCH~~THAYS P~R~ S~GN
There was a discussion regarding the Town of Wappinger Seal to be put on the
platform at Schlathaus Park. It was suggested that Joseph Mastrioanni speak
with Lou Diehl about the emblem and see about getting it made.
Mary Schmalz said she has aver 100 hours due and would see if she could get
the kids to do the, painting on the platform before Community Day to be held
.
September 13th.
SOCC~R PROGRA.,
Mary Schmalz reported that the summer soccer program had ended and the fall
soccer should be starting in about two weeks.
She mentioned that some cleaning up was being done in.back of the field
House at the Junior High and would like the use of a front loader.
BASEBALL
Bill ~ood'mentioned that there were 32 games in the playoffs and State Finals
for 13 year olds at Robinson Lane.
PUGOUTS
Bill Woad reported that Jon Adams 8uppo~ted that private individuals could not
donate to the Town but only to non-profit organizationso It was suggested
that the materials be donated to ths Littls League and they would be duly
documented that the dug outs belong to the Town.

It was suggested that after the budget is done we see if Sl,OOO. or so is
available for cement needed for the footings for the dugouts.
PUBLIC ~DDR;SS SUSTEM
Bill Wood..said that a person has donated $3,000. for a public address system
at' Robinson Lane which would include speakers at each field and main switches
at the Storehouse. They would like permiseion to put the interconnections
underground. Bill Wood made a motion eeconded by Joseph Mastrioanni. All
were in favor. Mr.'Wood will work further on this.
SOFTBALL
Mr. Wood asked if we: were. going to discontinue allowing non-league softball
games to be played on our fields. Mr. Maurer said no but if the Schaefer
Tournament is abusing the fields they will not be allowed future use of them.
FILL AT ROBINSON
Mr. W60d said ~hat Hr. Lafko would like to put clean fill in the area behind
Robinson 1. After a discussion in which all were in favor, it was suggested we
have a discussion with Jon Adams',to see what.the legal aspects are. We will
ask him to write a letter to Lafka.

Mr. Frank Versace called and asked if the Recreation Commission cduld use
some clay. Mr. Wood said the Little league could use some. It was suggested
that Mr. Maurer check with Wiltsie Bros. and Mr. Wood check with Contelmo
regarding prices to truck the clay.
FLAG peLE
Mr. Maurer reported the cost. of the Flag Pole is 5606.._ !.It'has a 5' bottom
and 33' bronze pole, including pullies. It has to be installed in concrete.
HORSE SHOW
The Horse "Show will be held S~turday and Sunday, October 3rd and 4th. We will
have to get with Mr. Ennesser regarding advertising and posters.
CONCERTS
The concerts were very good. Theie was a thought that we could hold soma in the
schools during the winter.

POP WARNER
Page 3
Pop Warner has requested bleachers for football ga.es. It was decided that
they should be responsible for the. and have the. back to the Schlathaus
Property for the tree lighting.
The meeting was adjourned at 9138 on a .otion by Mr. Wood seconded by
Mr. Hastrioanni.
