TOWN OF WAPPINGER RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES, FEBRUARY 11, 1982 rc Next ~eetinq M~rch 4. 1962 The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held February 11, 1982 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of Wappingers Falls, Dutchess County, Ne~ York. Mr. Maurer opened the meeting at 7:45 p.m. Present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Joseph Ennesser, Joseph Mastroianni, Mary Schmalz and 'Bill Wood. On a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni the minutes of the January 14, 1982 meeting were approved. DIRE~TOR.S REPORT The winter programs are going good with - 29 registered fo= Boy's Basketball, 49 registered for gymnastics, 140 registered for aerooics (2 sessions), 38 registered for exercise, and 40 registered for adult volleyball. The concert was great with an estimate of over 700 people attending. The only negative remark was the parking was very limited. Mr. Ennesser made note that the Sunday Softball has not neen accepted becaus~ of the p~oblems of last year. He felt that they should come in and discuss these problems with the Commission Mambers before tney are accepted. f;.QU I~MENT_ FOR PROGRAtvlS Town Board member Frank Versace joined us for a discussion on the three programs that have been curbed in regard to equipment. We have received a legal opinion from our attorne'y and from the State of he"" York and cannot by law go out and purchase and loan equipment to Little League, Hockey and Pop Warner. Mr. Versace is pursuing this matter. After Mr. Versace left a discussion continued on this matter. It was recommended and all were in favor that we advertise for bid for the equipment for Little League. LITTLE LE1lliU~ The Little League has asked the Town for permission to put a trailer body, off the wheels, out by the tree row at Robinson Lane for storage of pumps, generators and equipment. It would be painted and the Little League would take responsibility for security. It was suggested and all WGre in favor, that we try it for one season and that it would be removed in September if it is an eye sore or if there are any other problems. "M!nu~es February 11, 1982 Page 2 ,. '.. . TOu; ~ M.IE NTS There are three softball tournaments scheduled for Robinson Lane in 1982, Town people and local teams participate in these tournaments. CHELSEA BOAT RAMP Mention was made that something should be done to finish the ra~p and have the float completed. Mr. Maurer mentioned that Kenneth Croshier will be going with members of the Recreation Commission in the Spring to get some ideas on what can be done to correct some of the problems. BEAUTIFICATION Mr. DeMatteo waS invited to attend this meeting to discuss beautification but was unable to attend because he is working out of town. SE'dOR CITIZENS Something should be started for the Senior Citizens and Mr. Mes~roianni will attempt to get ideas of what they would like and where it wo~ld De more convenient for them to get to. There was further discussion on ~ne Senior Citizen Days at All Sport in Fishkill. SO:~ CONSERVATION We received the list for Tree Planting. The same plan will be followed as was last year. .fjU 'H (aU NTRY ESTATES , A letter was received from the Planning Board regarding work in lieu of recreation fS3 on the above. It was decided we still want work done and we will get in touch with Kenneth Russ to discuss it further. CO~~FERENCE A letter was received from the Town Clerk advising that the Re=reation Commission was granted permission by the Town Board to attend the Annual N. Y. State Recreation and Parks Conference from April 18 to April 21 a~ Mcnticello, New York. FI::....DSTONE PARK A letter was written in DecembB~ to Mr. James Klein regarding t~s price for fill at Fieldston~ Park. and to data we have not receiv?d any cc:n:nui1ica'tions from him. It was recommended a letter be sent to Kenneth Russ requesting what the findings are. SO;:CE? Mrs. Schmalz gave a report on the Soccer Program. i"ii~,~i;,.:3s February 11, 1982 Page 3 COMMUNICATIONS A copy of a letter from Jon Adams to U.S. Department of Interior regarding the Town Request for Open Site at Castle Point was received. Notice was received from Dutchess County Youth Board of a meeting March lOth at 7:30 p.m. at the County Office Building. A letter was received from Mr. Bill Pauldin~ asking permission to run a Baseball Camp at Robinson Lane this summer apart from the Wappinger Community Schools. It was decided that if he separates his association with the school we have to deny him permission to run the camp and that a letter stating such will be sent to him.
