MINUTES - FEBRUARY 17, 1983
Next Meetina March 24. 1983
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation
Commission was held February 17, 1983 at Town Hall, Mill Street,
Village of Wappingers Falls, County of Dutchess, New York.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Hugh J. Maurer
at 7:50 with the following persons present: Joseph Ennesser, Joseph
Mastroianni, Ronald Petro, Mary Schmalz and Bill Wood.
The minutes of the January 13, 1983 meeting were approved
on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni. All were in
favor.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that the Indoor Concert was to be held
March 12th at 7:30 at the Wappingers Jr. High. The concert will feature
the Sweet Adelines and the New Yorkere.
When asked how many concerts were planned Mr. Ennesser said one
for Spring and he hopes to run a couple in the Fall. It was mentioned
that t~ilet facilities should be made available for the outdoor summer
concerts.
Mr. Ennesser reported that the Winter Programs were going
smoothly with a good number attending.
There was a discussion on having a boys basketball Saturday
Afternoon Fun League. Most of the members present thought it was a
bad time of the year to start. Mr. Petro mentioned concerns about
eligibility and suggested the league be started earlier next year. He
said he would be glad to discuss his concerns with the person who offers
to run the program.
LITTLE LEAGUE
A letter was received from Mr. Holt requesting use of fields
for the upcoming Little League season. Since there are some questions
regarding his requests, Mr. Wood will contact Mr. Holt for clarification.
SOFTBALL LEAGUE AND TOURNAMENTS
Mr. Ennesser mentioned that we will be getting a letter from
the Softball League requesting use of fields for" their upcoming season.

There also was a discussion on whether or not to accept the
Schafer Tournament in light of past problems. It was decided to deal
with this if and when the letter arrives.

Mrs. Schmalz showed information and pictures on a Barn she
visited at 'Montpelier Cultural Arts Center in Columbia, Maryland.
SECURITY SYSTEM
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the security system is in at
both buildings. After the new doors are installed the system will
be re-installed. Mr. Post is the only individual who has a key for
the alarm system.
PROJE CTORS
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the 16mm projector is in and
is stored at Town Hall. She is still working on obtaining the slide
projector.
NATURE TRAILS
Mr. Maurer mentioned that Mrs. Reese is interested in getting
a Natur. Study Program started. Mrs. Schmalz asked whether the individual
in charge of Ranger Rick could be classified as a Director. She mentioned
that she has someone in mind who is well qualified for that position,
however, she is not sure whether he would be interested. Mr. Ennesser will
follow:up on this issue.
SOCCER
Mrs. Schmalz said that indoor soccer for ages 10 and under has
started at Myers but was snowed out last week.
TREE SEEDLINGS
The order will be placed for the tree seedlings. It was
suggested that we think about getting local organizations ~o plan~ them
on Town properties to help in beautification. We would still give them
to the Town Residents also.

SHOOT-A-THON
Mr. Petro mentioned that the Poughkeepsie Rotary is sponsoring
a Shoot-A-Thon to be held on April 17th for the benefit of the Adriance
Memorial Library. He asked if it might be possible to sponsor a bus
to transport the children to and from the event if he can get enough
interest from the Wappinger School System.
Mr. Maurer recommended that the secretary's salary be raised
from $3.35 per hour to $4.00 per hour. Mr. Wood seconded the motion.
All were in favor.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 on a mmtion by Mr. Wood
seconded by Mr. Petro.
