The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission
was held April 21, 1983 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of Wappingers
Falls, County of Dutchess, New York.
The meeting was called to order at 7:45 by Chairman Hugh J.
Maurer, with the following persons present: Joseph Ennesser, Joseph
Mastroianni, Frank Presti, Mary Schmalz and Bill Wood.
The minutes of the March 24, 1983 meeting were approved by Bill
Wood and seconded by Frank Presti with the following corrections: The
section "Summer Program" on page 3 will be deleted and on Page 2 under
"Travis Property" there were two proposals. A period should be placed
after land and a new sentence written regarding the second proposal.
Mr. Ronald Petro arrived at 7:55.
DIRECTORS REPORT
Mr. Ennesser reported that the winter programs a~e finishing
and the salaries will be computed. We will then know what,monies are
available for summer help. He has received over 50 applications and has
only a few openings. There was a discussion on the Ranger Rick Program and
Reese Park in regard to Conservation.
Mr. Ennesser is in the process of setting up about 3 concerts for
the summer and possibly 1 indoor concert for the fall.
The trees that were ordered are in. Mr. Ennesser will pick them
up.
He has reserved 2 short truck bodies for the playgrounds.
SCHLATHAUS PARK
Mr. Maurer mentioned that flowers were going to be planted
around the Flag Pole and Bandstand.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that there were possibly some problems
when Senior Citizens go on bus trips sponsored by the Recreation Commission.
After a discussion, a list of 5 conditions was formulated. A copy
of the conditions are attached to these minutes.
It was also noted that we would discourage overnight trips at
this time.

BROCHURE
Mr. Mastroianni brought back a brochure of the Pawling Recreation
Commission which he obtained while at the conference at Monticello. This
brochure describes on-going programs, special events, trips, etc. that
the Pawling Recreation Commission sponsors. After a discussion it was
decided that Mr. Mastroianni look into the programs to see if he could
scale them down to suit our purposes.
CONfERENCE AT MONTICELLO
Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that the 1983 New York State Recreation
and Parks Convention at Monticello was good but the general atmosphere
was depressing in that 1/3 of the exhibits were missing.
TENNIS TOURNAMENT
Mr. Petro mentioned that Pat Zerbie, who is in charge of Pough-
keepsie Tennis Tournament, called and requested use of the Martz Field
Courts on June 11 & 12 and 18 & 19 from 9 -5 for an Open Tournament.
The request is in the event of an overflow crowd at the Poughkeepsie
Tennis Courts. It was recommended that we co-operate and let them use
the courts but save two for our use. All were in favor.
TENNIS COURT
Mr. Petro asked if we could put new benches inside the court
area. Mr. Wood will contact someone at B.O.C.E.S. about getting 45ft.
benches for this area. The benches will have a hole drilled in them so
that they can be chained to the fence.
The lights will be turned on June 1st.
Mr. Petro mentioned that the posts on the courts are alseady
bending and that he would speak to Mr. LaPar about it.
A couple of applicants have answered the ad in the paper for
Tennis Director. Mr. Petro is working on filling this post.
ROBINSON LANE
Mr. Presti spoke with Chief Peter Howell of the New Hackensack
fire Company about burnin~ the brush at Robinson Lane. Chief Howell'will
get back with his recommendation after his on si~e inspection.

SOCCER
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the indoor soccer program will
finish the end of April. She had a meeting with the Ments Soccer League
and it is expanding this year to possibly 12 teams. Kick off for the
league will probably be May 17th.
The men requested a place for practice and Mrs. Schmalz mentioned
Chelsea Recreation Area adjacent to the ball field.
AUTO DEALERS LEAGUE
A person from Toyota Car Dealership called requesting a ball
field on Friday nights for their Auto Dealers League. Mrs. Schmalz
asked them to put their request in writing and then Mr. Ennesser would
get back with them.
YOUTH BOARD
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that we received $16,406. for 1982 for
funding from the Youth Board. This year our funding is up to $18,000.
SUMMER DIRECTOR
There was a discussion on the Summmr On Site Director and who
were the possibilities for Director. Mr. Ennesser will come back at the
next meeting with some recommendations.
LITTLE LEAGUE
Mr. Wood mentioned that 2 doors, one new and one used, have been
placed on the dugouts, at a cost of $190. He also mentioned that because
of the weather the painting of the dugouts has not been finiahed.
He mentioned that 12 barrels will be coming from Fairchild to
Robinson Lane for refuse purposes.
Mr. Wood asked Mr. Ennesser for a schedule of the games to be
played at the fields so that he could get the boys to do the lining.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter was received from Ralph Ames, Chairman of the 5th Annual
Bavarian Fest of the New Hackensack Fire Company requesting the use of
Town Property on Myers Corners Road, and All Angels Hill Road for parking
during their fest June 10, 11, and 12th. All were in favor to let them
use the property.

CORRESPONDENCE CON'T
A letter was received from Mr. Diehl stating that extra patrols
and stake outs will be added as of March 25th.
A letter was received from the Hughsonville fire District
granting permission for the Commission to use the playground for their
Summer Programs. However, they will be holding a bazaar from July 27th
to August 1st and we will not be able to use it them.. Mr. Ennesser will
follow up.
LIGHT ON fLAG
Mr. Wood mentioned that the light used to illuminate the flag
at Schlathaus Park is not working. A suggestion was made that a photo
sensor be installed and that Black Electric could possibly do the work
when they fix the Tennis Lights.
PROTECT RACE
We received a legal from Jon Adams indicating that we could not
sponsor this race but that they could use the property. It was recommended
that a letter be sent to PROTECT stating that they could use the property
to start and finish the race but that we would not be a sponsor or have
our name used in relation to it. All were in favor.
TOWN BARN
Mr. Presti and Mr. Wood mentioned that they had some contraators
inspect the barn fox soundness. After a discussion on what was to be
done regarding the repairs, it was decided that Mrs. Schmalz find out
what money is actually available.
HIL N DALE SUBDIVISION
After a review of the sub division, it was recommended that a
letter be written to take money in lieu of land.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 on a motion by Mr. Wood
seconded by Mr. Presti.

To Whom It May Concern
The Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission sponsors free bus
trips when funds are available for its senior citizens with the
following conditionsg
1. The trip is open to any resident of the Town of
Wappingero
2c The resident must be 60 years of age or older.
3c The resident/participant shall not be required to
pay any fee towards the cost of the bus rideo
4~ When a trip is organized by a senior group, non-
members :.!till h,ave the same opportunity to participate
as members..
50 A reservation secretary designated for a trip will
be responsible to see that the above conditions are
met and that a trip report is given to the Recreation
Commission.
