Boyaciyilmaz Site Old Business Meeting Adjourned Next Meeting .. -t i ~ TOWN OF WAPPINGER - RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES - JULY 14, 1983 Next Meetine Aueust 14. 1983 The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission was held July 14, 1983 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of Wappingers Falls, County of Dutchess, New York. Chairman Hugh J. Ma4~er palled the meeting to order at 8:00 with the following persons present: Mary Schmalz, Joseph Mastroianni, Ronald Petro, rrankPresti, Joseph Ennesser, Rene Russ Summer Playgroung Director and Nicholas Johnson Town Board Member. The minutes of the June 9, 1983 meeting were approved an a motion by Mr. Petra secnnded by Mr. Prasti. All were in favor. Town Board Member Nicholas Johnson mantioned the meeting that was held recently with the residents of Ye Olde Apple Orchard and requested a cost for the maintenance of the pond area. Mr. Maurer, mentioned that application of the copper sulfate has been applied to 1/2 of the pond. Mr. Johnson discussed a letter which stated that the Town of Wappinger will receive 114,400. to renovate the sanitary facilities at Robinson Lane to be used by the handicapped. He also brought with him a propoaal from Mr. Ralph Holt for our comments and recommendations. The 3 proposals are as follows: 1. Modest expansion of building 2. Screened in area for handicapped on the west side of the building. 3. Covered pavilion on the e.st side of ths building. Mr. Johnson asked for our comments and voting results for their Town Board meeting August 8th. After Mr. Johnson left, the Commission agreed that monies should be used to improve the facilities. A handicapped facility and a pavilion should be added. The Commission voted not to add the screened in area for the handicapped. Mrs. Schmalz was against the expansion of the facilities at Robinson Lane but appr8ved of the handicapped rest rooms. After a discussion Mr. Petro volunteered to compase a letter to the Town Board with our recommendations regarding these matters. Mrs. Ellen Korz, resident of Quiet Acres attended the meeting and mentioned that the playground activities were goin9 very nicely and they were happy with what has been done. -4 'Minutes Page 2 July 14, 1983 DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Ennesser mentioned the followingl 1. He had received B letter from the Mid Hudson Road Runner Club requesting thet the Town again sponeor the Schlathaus Memorial Park Race on October 1, 1983. They also asked if we would hell defray the cost of T-Shirts to be given to the first 100 adults and 30 children registering. After a diecussion, Mr. Petro made a motion that we again sponsor the race and as in the past supply awards, refreshments and other incidentals and let them provide their own shirts. The motion was seconded by Mr. Presti. All were in favor. 2. The Riverboat Banjo Band will be at Schlathaus Park Sunday July 17, from 2 - 4. 3. He~is upgrading the signs at Schlathaus Park. 4. Mr. Ron Werskey has requested the use of Robinson Lans fields for a Boy Scout Tournament on September 17th. The Commiseion voted to approve this request. SOCCER Mre. Schmalz mentioned that soccer is progressing nicely. They are playing at the Junior High and expect to continue through Labor Day. She aeked Mr. Enneaser if he could see about scheduling indoor soccer en Sunday or Monday evenings at Ketcham. ~EW BROCHURE Mr. Mastroianni showed the Commission the new recreation brochure. It was decided that some copies showld be available to the Chamber of Commerce, Welcome Wagon and far Community Day. SENIOR CITIZEN TRIP Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that the trip scheduled for July was cancelled because there wasn't enough intereat from the New Hackensack Group. It was decided that he speak with Town Clerk, Elaine Snowden and see if they could take names for registrations on the trips at Town Hall or make .... ather arrangements. 1 . .-4 . . Minutes Page 3 July 14, 1983 TENNIS Mr. Petro mentioned that the lights have been on at the courts and that he has received many good comments. He also mentioned that the Tennie Tournaments will be held during August this year instead of September. WJt Mr. Presti brought in a report he had prepared on the barn. After a discusaion, it was decided that he prepare to go for bids and that Mrs. Schmalz look into getting funds. SUMMER PLAYGROUND Mrs. Rene Russ, the summer playground director distributed sheets showing attendance at the faur playgrounds. She said they were running smoothly and discussed the swiM program. Mrs. Russ mentioned that she was planning a trip to the Bronx Zoo. She asked if we could purchase iron-ons with the Town Logo so that the children could wear them on their shirt. snd be easily identified. Mr. Petro made a motion we purchase them. Mr. Presti seconded the motion. All were in favor. WHISPERING BROOK SUB DIVISION - ROBINSON LANE Mr. Maurer Mentioned that Mr. Shelley would like to put in a swale at Robinson Lane for drainage. After a discussion, the Commission voted in favor of the swale. A letter will be written to Mr. Shelley regarding this motion. fIELDSTONE fARMS 11 SPOOK HILL ,It was mentioned that the Commission was very disappointed with the progress of work done by Mr. James A. Klein at the above Sub-division. The Board then composed a latter so stating to be sent to him. S. DINELINE &. o. BOYICI~l~MIf'Z. M/H~__ A map was received from the Zoning Adminstration on the above. After reviewing it, the eommission was not sure what information they were requesting. It was decided to note such and mention that if it was recreation land, we would take money in lieu of land.
