TOWN OF WAPPINGER - RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES - APRIL 5, 1984
NEXT MEETING MAY 3. 1984
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission
was held April 5, 1984 at Town Hall, Mill Street, Village of Wappingers Falls,
County of Dutchess, New York.
The informal meeting was called to order at 7:40 P.M. with the
following persons present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director,
Mary Schmalz and Joseph Mastroianni.
Mr. Blose reported that:
1. Most of the current winter programs are scheduled to finish
around April 14th. Mrs. Brenda Peura requested to extend the exercise program
but because of the closing of Ketcham it won't be possible. Mr. Blose will
notify her. Mr. Maurer suggested it be extended next year from the start of the
program since there is the interest.
2. A concert has been scheduled to be held on Thursday, July 26th
with the Riverbank Banjo Band. A request was made that the secretary order a
porta-john to be delivered to Sch1athaus Park for the concert season and to the
Quiet Acres and Hughsonvi11e Playground areas for the Summer Playground.
3. He is planning an indoor concert in late Mayor June at
Van Wyck Jr. High for teenagers. This will be a joint venture with East Fishki11
Recreation. He has been discussing this with Mr. Bill Green. Mr. Maurer noted
that there should be extra chaperones for this concert.
4. He has notified Ken Lynn of Ketcham that they may use the
Tennis Courts at Pye Lane. Mr. Lynn mentioned that a net was missing and he
would provide it. Mr. Maurer suggested that Mr. Petro probably has the nets and
to contact him.
5. He has asked what he could do in the event a request is made
for lights on the Tennis Courts in view of Ketcham being closed. The Commission
suggested we wait on this request, but; if it'wasrmadefor games, we would probably
honor it in view of the problems facing the Ketcham students.
6. He has questioned our commitment regarding the Boots and Bows
Square Dance Group. Mrs. Schmalz said that our commitment is to contract the
schools for the normal custodial time, but if there is any additional time Boots
and Bows would have to pay for the overtime. Mr. Blose will get in touch with
them regarding this.
7. He has contacted Mr. Labrienic of Miracle Recreation and was
told that all equipment for Quiet Acres is in and as soon as the weather gets
better it will be installed.

8. Bill Pauldine called regarding the Baseball Camp he runs
during the summer and wondered about the possibility of holding it in Wappinger.
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that because it is a privately run camp we could not allow
this. Mr. Maurer mentioned that we had addressed this previously and we will take
the same stand.
Mr. Blose and Mrs. Schmalz gave a report on the meetings and
workshops they attended at the Recreation Convention at the Pines.
Mr. Wood arrived at 8:35 at which time the meeting was opened
with a quorum.
The minutes of the March 15, 1984 meeting were approved on
a motion by Mr. Mastroianni seconded by Mr. Wood. All were in favor with the
following corrections: Page 1 under Director's Report it should be added that
the Commission is having trouble finding storage space to have all the Plus 5
delivered at one time. On Page 3 under Truck Bodies - It should be added "A
truck body for Robinson."
ROBINSON LANE
Mr. Wood mentioned tnat the Little League is ready to do the
floor at the above site and would like us to remove our equipment.
April 28th is the scheduled opening day for Little League there-
fore they would like the water turned on by that date.
There was a discussion on changing the locks or getting a
secondary lock for the building since too many people now have the key to the
present lock.
Mr. Wood said that he has two boys to line the fields, They are
the same as last year Robert Viggiano and Michael Thompson.
INSURANCE
Mrs. Schmalz said that she took a copy of the insurance forms,
she handed out to the Commission members at the last meeting, to Mr. James L.
Stephens at Brinkerhoff. She was told that the Associations insurance cost was
good. Additional discussion will occur at a future meeting when all of the
Commission members are present and have had time to study it.

CASTLE POINT
Mr. Maurer has met with the engineer at the above site to go
over the problems with the Health Department in getting a permit for the dump.
There was a problem with the Fire Company dumping fire debrie at Castle Point
and the gate being broken. Mr. Maurer will contract A-l Fence to fix the gate.
The bill will be sent to the Chelsea Fire Department. The engineer will put
out stakes for approval of where the landfill will be located. He will also
make another topal map.
TOWN HALL
Mrs. Schmalz recently attended a workshop regarding the new
Town Hall. She mentioned that the Town Hall should include an area for a Recreation
Office. We would like room for 2 desks, a table, wall space for a large bulletin
board and space for future use of a small word processer. A suggestion was made
that a letter stating the above be sent to the Town Board with a copy to the
Architect.
RIVERVIEW PROPERTIES
It was suggested that a letter be written to the Planning Board
requesting what action they are contemplating on the above properties.
KLEIN PROPERTY
The Town Board asked for suggestions for improvements at the

These improvements were the ones suggested in 1982 for work in lieu of land.

The Health Department has requested that the p1p1ng and plumbing
be changed at the above site to take the water closer to the clorination point.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 on a motion by Mr. Wood
