August 15, 1984
This is the most recent, revised copy of the plans for the
SpookHill Recreation Area. Your members have seen this plan at
a recent workshop meeting with the Town Board.
The Town Board would like to make this plan official at the
Town Board MeeUng on Mond,y, August 20, 1984. Also added to this
layout will be the inclusion of some picnic benches, agreed to by
Jim Klein at the aforementioned workshop meeting.
Please advise the Town Board if there are any major concerns
your members may have with this map. Please return this map to me
on Friday, August 17, 1984.
After reviewing the plans, the Commission recommended unanimously to
accept them with the suggestion that the boccie court be placed so that at
some future date an additional court may be added.
DIRECTORS REPORT
The summer program ends tomorrow August 17th, everything went well. We
will study the Hughsonville Program further for next year as to attendance and
facilities. The Truck body has been returned from Quiet Acres and tomorrow
the one from Hughsonville will be returned. The swimming program was excellent
this year as we ran our own program.
Mr. Blose mentioned that Mr. Foley, of Deer Hil~would see what he
could do for the Senior Citizens next year.

The tennis program needs an overhaul for next season. The attendents
will be there for another week. Vandalism at the courts is unbelievable.
The basketball court at Chelsea is all finished and the Martz Field
Court has been blacktopped but we have to wait 3 weeks before it can be
coated and painted. Mr. Blose suggested that maybe lights could be installed
and a league formed.
Mr. Blose mentioned that there was money in the budget for a slide
and jungle gym at Martz Field. The counselors and Mr. Blose feel that this
equipment is not necessary and instead it was suggested that the 2 backboards
be replaced. It was decided to do this.
A bid has been received from Miracle Recreation to fix the playground
equipment at Rockingham ($126.18), Martz ($570.75) and Robinson Lane ($870.25).
Mr. Blose suggested that the $2,000. in "B" Fund be used to replace the
equipment. Mr. Maurer suggested that Fleetwood be checked our and equipment
purchased. A motion was made to get this equipment,
The following programs are being set up for the fall-winter.
1. Mens Open Basketball
2. Adult Volleyball
3. Chi1drens Basketball and Gymnastics
Mr. Blose had a discussion with Y.M.C.A. for an exercise program for
the Senior Citizens. The charge for 2 sessions a week - 80 sessions was
$1,656. and it would be held at the K. of C. Mrs. Schmalz offered to do
this since she is a certified instructor. Mrs. Schmalz and Mr. Blose will
follow through on this.
Soccer League registration is still going on. About 105-110 have
signed up to date.
The concert scheduled for tonight with Dutchess Community College was
rained out and will not be re-schedu1ed.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. Mastroianni said the August 14th trip to New Preston, Connecticut
went well with 45 going.
On September 11th they are scheduling a trip to Shawnee on the Delaware,
Pa. and will see the matinee of "Gypsy".
Mr. Mastroianni mentioned that he received a letter on copy from
Sarah Rogine, Dutchess County Association for Senior Citizens addressed to
Frank Versace, Supervisor. In this letter they requested that the Recreation
Commission provide extra funds so they could keep the Wappingers Falls
Senior Center open an extra hour per week. The Cost of the extra hour in
1985 would be as follows: $6.48 hr. x 1 hr./wk. x 52 weeks = $336.96. The
Commission was concerned about the request not being directed to them and were
concerned about what action the Town Board took and whose budget the money
would be taken from.

PLAYGROUND
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the playground and swim program was
excellent this year and that Mr. Blose deserves the credit. She held a
contest for all the children who went on the trip to the Albany Museum
writing up their favorite experiences. Prizes were obtained from various
merchants.
LITTLE LEAGUE
Mr. Wood mentioned that the Little League season went well and he
is within the budget for Field Maintenance. Play offs are finished and
there were many good comments on the fields, from the visiting teams and
their parents. They stated that Robinson Lane was one of the best complexes
in the State. This year was the first time there were 3 state finals on the
same day at the same location.
BOAT RAMP
Mr. Maurer said the floats are ready to be put in but they are having
trouble because of rocks. He is looking into a solution to this. He also
mentioned that we need signs and Mr. Blose will look into that.
CITIZENS ADVISORY REPORT
We will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, August 29th to review
the above report.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:40 on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded by
Mr. Mastroianni.
