MINUTES
APRIL 17, 1985
NEXT MEETING MAY 9, 1985 at 8:00 P.M.
The regular meeting 0 f the Town of Wappinger Recreation Connnission
was held April 17, 1985 at Town Hall, Village of Wappingers Falls, County
of Dutchess, New York.
Mr. Maurer opened the meeting at 8:10 with the following persons
present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director, and Commission
Members Frank Presti, Mary Schmalz and Bill Wood.
The minutes of the March 14, 1985 meeting were approved on a motion
by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Presti. All were in favor.
DIRECTORS REPORT
Mr. Blose reported the following:
1. The Exercise & Volleyball program and Basketball program are
the only ones still in progress. They are scheduled to end the middle of
May.
2. He has ordered 150 bags of Plus 5 to be delivered April 25th
to Robinson Lane. The balance of 135 bags will be delivered at a later
date.
3. He is working on setting up the personnel for summer playgrounds.
Most are returnees from last year.
4. He is working with Mr. Incoronato on obtaining a flagpole and
plaque for the Castle Point Field Dedication.

5. A letter was received from Peter D. Huff of the Mid Hudson
Recreation Council regarding a meeting on May 1st at which Scott Daniels
of the Dutchess County Health Department will review new health regulations
which affect day camps. Mr. Blose and Mrs. Schmalz will attend the meeting
at the Farm and Home Center in Mi1lbrook.
6. He is working on Summer Concerts but no dates have been set. He
has talked with Dutchess Connnunity College about presenting concerts.
Mr. Maurer mentioned that the door is on at the Robinson Lane Complex
and that Mrs. Schmalz can see about having the burglar alarm connected.

Mr. Maurer mentioned that he has called Black Electric concerning
fixing the basketball lights at Martz Field. He hasn't heard from them yet.
BAND STAND
Mr. Presti mentioned that he had spoken with Mr. Mastroianni regarding some
type of permanent band shell for Sch1athaus Park. Mr. Mastroianni left word
that a meeting could be scheduled for May 6th or 7th with Mr. Fiori of Wappingers
Falls who works for B.O.C.E.S. and is willing to work with us on this project.
Mr. Presti will contact Mr. Mastroianni to set up the date.
YE OLD APPLE ORCHARD (POND)
It was mentioned that the right of way to the recreation pond area
at the above site is blocked and maintenance workers are not able to gain
access to mow etc. It was suggested that a letter be sent to the owner of
the property next to the right of way asking that he remove his vehicles
from this roadway and that it be kept open at all times. A copy of this
letter would go to the Zoning Administrator.
RECREATION MONIES OR PROPERTY IN SUBDIVISIONS
Mr. Presti mentioned that he has spoken to Mr. Versace and Mr.
Fanue1e of the Planning Board regarding a clarification of this rule.
There seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether it relates to 10%
of total acreage or the number of lots involved. We are still waiting for a
verification on this subject.
There also was a discussion about what the Recreation Commission
actually gets on new subdivisions after recommendations are submitted. It
was suggested that a letter be sent to the Town Board and Planning Board
asking to be notified as to what final decisions are made regarding these
new subdivisions.
LITTLE LEAGUE
Mr. Wood reported that Opening Day is scheduled for April 27, 1985.
He has hired the boys to do the lining of all fields including Castle Point.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. Mastroianni was unable to attend tonights meeting but left the
following information regarding the Senior Citizen Trips. Presently there
are 3 trips planned for 1985. They are as follows:

QUIET ACRES
With the recent appointment of Mrs. Ellen Korz, a resident of
Quiet Acres, to the Commission it was suggested that she be asked to take
over the responsibilities of the Quiet Acres Recreation Area.
YOUTH BOARD
Mrs. Schmalz reported that the check for $18,000. is in from the
Youth Board
ADULT SOCCER
Mrs. Schmalz mentioned that the Adult Soccer League will be starting
during May with approximately 12 teams with the possibility of expanding
to 16 teams. They are using the fields at Ketcham and the Jr. High School.
BOAT RAMP
Mr. Maurer mentioned that the platforms need to be put in and
anchored. He asked Mr. Presti and Mr. Wood to meet with him at the site
on May 1st at 7:00 p.m. to discuss how this will be done.
FENCING
Prices have been obtained from A-I Fence Co. regarding several
fencing projects. After reviewing the costs and projects it was decided
to go ahead with the following:
Robinson Lane - Take down 640 ft. of 4 Ft high chain link
fence - Supply and install 65 linear ft. of
2" O. D. - Install existing top rail and wire
on new posts. Approx. $3,100.
Martz Field - Fix up existing fencing
Approx. $ 720.
Rockingham
Install fence panels by the sewer plant - 2
7 ft. high 10 ft. long out from sewer plant
with a 4 ft. gate. Approx. $275. - $300.
Mr. Maurer mentioned that the side wings have been installed at
Robinson Lane at a cost of $530.00.
It was decided that the new fencing project for Martz Field would
be put in next years budget.
ROBINSON LANE
A request was received from Little League asking permission for them
to place some type of memorial at the base of the Flag Pole at Robinson Lane.
This would be given in memory of Ernest Post and various other individuals who
have devoted much of their time and effort to Little League. It was decided

to approve this request and recommend that the names of Elsie and George
Sch1athaus be added to this memorial.
SCHLATHAUS PARK
After some discussion, it was decided to put money aside in next years
budget for a permanent fence to be placed between the Park and the Diesing
Property. This might prevent people attending concerts and functions at the
Park from trespassing in the fields.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter was received from New Hackensack Fire Company requesting
permission to use the property located at All Angels and Myers Corners Road
for parking for their 7th Annual Bavarian Festival to be held June 7, 8, & 9th
Permission was granted and a letter will be forwarded to the Company.
ANGEL HILL SUBDIVISION
After reviewing the map of the above Subdivision, it was decided to
request from the Planning Board a map showing the whole Master Plan to see
if there would be any way we could link our present recreation area with the
new subdivision.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 on a motion by Mr. Wood seconded
by Mr. Presti.
