TOWN OF WAPPINGER
RECREATION COMMISSION
MILL STREET
WAPPINGERS FALLS. N. Y. 12590
MINUTES
JUNE 13, 1985
NEXT MEETING JULY 11. 1985 @ 7:30 P.M.
The regular meeting of the Town of Wappinger Recreation Commission
was held June 13, 1985 at Town Hall, Village of Wappingers Falls, County of
Dutchess, New York.
Mr. Maurer opened the meeting at 8:10 P.M. with the following
persons present: Hugh J. Maurer, Chairman, Robert Blose, Director, and
Commission Members Joseph Mastroianni, Mary Schmalz and William Wood. Herb
Stoller arrived at 8:16 P.M.
The minutes of the May 9, 1985 meeting were approved on a motion
by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Mastroianni with the following correction on the
last sentence on Page 2 "Mrs. Schmalz was concerned about getting the new doors
on the building at Martz".
DIRECTORS REPORT
Mr. Blose reported the following:
1. The playgrounds are almost ready although several people
have quit since being hired. All have been replaced except one for Quiet
Acres. The order for playground equipment is in. Several trips are planned
to Splashdown and 2 plays are scheduled by C.E.R.T. at Schlathaus Park. The
children from Spook Hill will be going swimming first so that a couple extra
weeks are available to get the grounds in shape. At present the roof is on the
building at Spook Hill but the doors are not. The new equipment is on order from
Miracle. The invoice will go to Klein.
2. Some discussion took place regarding the equipment at
Hughsonville Firehouse. A decision was made based on past experience, that
equipment tends to get ruined when it is removed. Therefore for the present
it will be left there.
3. Mr. Blose mentioned that for several years a few directors
have been returning. He felt that in order to keep them they should be given
an increase. Mr. Stoller made a motion seconded by Mr. Wood that Barbara
Montross, Kira Disbrow, Elmer Wilday and Pat Wilday be given a $20.00 a week
increase. All were in favor.
4. So far 3 events are scheduled for Schlathaus Park, one with
Dutchess Community College, one with Steve Johnson and one with Handman Family.

MINUTES
June 13, 1985
Mr. Blose is trying to schedule Nick Seeger and the Sweet Ade1ines have contacted
him to present a concert. He is working on 2 concerts for teenagers one
possibly with a "battle of the bands" concert. A suggestion was made that the
teenagers concert be held at Robinson Lane where it would not be so close to
neighbors and possibly the Little League would be able to run the concession
stand. A flat bed could be used as a platform. Mr. Blose will check on this.
Mr. Blose and Mr. Maurer attended a meeting at Chelsea Firehouse
regarding the Recreation Area. The District requested that a Certificate of
Insurance be forwarded to them. The secretary will take care of this. Also
discussed was a request for a fence to be erected from the southwest corner of
the school to the fence on the west boundary. This item will also be done as
soon as possible.
LIGHTS
Mr. Blose reported that the tennis lights are fixed with the
exception of 1 fixture which is to be repaired. Mike Silvestri suggested that
covers be placed on the lights at a cost of $39.00 each but was told this would
not be done at the present time.
The basketball lights are fixed but there seems to be a break in the
underground line. Mike Silvestri has tested the system and thinks he knows where
the break is. A back hoe will be brought in and the break will be fixed.
Mrs. Schmalz asked if a trouble light was to be put in to shine
toward the building and dugouts to help prevent vandalism.
A quote of $470.00 was received from Silvestri to move the electric
line at Sch1athaus to a pole so the old dead tree could be removed. Mr. Wood
suggested that we contact Central Hudson to see if they would donate a pole. Mr
Blose will contact Leo Clark or Jim Van Voorhis at the Fishki11 Office.
SCHIATHAUS PARK
Mr. Maurer mentioned that he ordered the flowers to be placed
around the signs, flagpole and in front of the platform at Sch1athaus Park. It
was also suggested that we contact Lawrence Farms or D'Agostino's for a new
Christmas Tree.
Mr. Blose reported that Councilwoman Paino would like a memo
from the Recreation Commission regarding the progress on the following:
1. The doorknob on the Ladies Room at Robinson Lane.
2. The "L" around the Ladies Room at Robinson Lane.
3. Fencing at Robinson Lane.

A memo will be written to Mrs. Paino stating thatfue doorknob is in and we
are waiting for the maintenance people to put it on. The "L" is under
advisement. At the present time the fencing project at Rockingham has been
completed and the necessary emergency fencing repairs have been done at
Robinson Lane and Martz Field. The bigger parts of the projects have to wa~
until games are completed because they will take more than one day because
cement has to be poured and it would interfere with games already scheduled.
It was suggested that a meeting be set up with the Town Board
to discuss responsibilities and guidelines for the Commission.
SPOOK HILL
Councilwoman Ballard joined the meeting at 9:00 to report that
the O'Hares have reported to the Town Board that kids are driving behind the
handball court. She mentioned that the Town Board suggested that a fence be
put up in the front of the Park and that the money would come from the Parkland's
Trust Fund.
A discussion took place later and a suggestion was made that we
look into Railroad ties and/or telephone poles to make a fence instead of a
chain link one. The poles would be placed 4' down and 3' high with a steel
pipe across the top. It was mentioned that signs should be posted.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Mr. Mastroianni reported that the trip to Shawnee went well with
44 attending.
BAND SHELL - SCHLATHAUS PARK
Mr. Mastroianni reported that he had contacted LaGrange regarding
their band shell and found that the Lions Club had it built and that they
probably have the blueprints. He was given the name of Chuck Johnson and has
been trying to contact him.
CASTLE POINT
Mrs. Ballard mentioned that a request was received for some play-
ground equipment at the Castle Point site. A suggestion was made by Mrs. Ballard
that Mr. Croshier be asked to move the swings from Ange1brook to Castle Point and
that we get new seats.
BURGLAR ALARMS
Mrs. Schmalz asked about having the alarm connected to the new
section of the building at Robinson Lane. The Commission agreed that this
should be done.

YE OLDE APPLE ORCHARD
Mr. Wood asked about the right of way and was told that because
the letter was not accepted by the Hopkins, the letter was turned over to
Carl Amburgy of the Town Parto1 and Sherifts Dept. He visited the Hopkins
and they told him they would keep the right of way open. Mr. Wood mentioned
that signs should be posted.
QUIET ACRES
The secretary reported for Mrs. Korz that the field has been
mowed but the grass around the swings and slide need to be trimmed. Also
the chain was reported to be broken.
A letter was received from Cardinal Hayes Home for Children
regarding the recreational needs of the area and the possibility of improving
recreational opportunities in the Town of Wappinger .
HERRINGTON HILLS
The above subdivision map was reviewed and a motion was made
by Mr. Wood seconded by Mr. Stoller to request lots 17 and 18 for recreational
purposes. All were in favor.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 on a motion by Mr. Wood
seconded by Mr. Mastroianni.
